Just thought you might like to know, the Februaury issue of PC Gamer (UK) gave Gothic 74%, saying "Rough around the edges and slightly intimidating, but ultimately Gothic rewards persistance"... of course, the review was written by someone who apparantly "specializes in FPS" so, to be honest, what would he know about RPGs.

I specialise in FPS's too...and you're right,I know nothing about RPG's.
I do know a good game when I find one though.

And there you have it. If an FPSer can look at Gothic and tell its a good game, thats actually saying something. Usually we scoff at the FPS who reviews a RPG "...Bah, what would HE/SHE know about an RPG..." thats the exact point. They could probably care less about the genre, so when one comes along that could attract even THEIR eye, well thats quite a feat in itself

Yeah,I guess so Shrapnel.
TBH I completely ignored RPG's (just like RTS's,but I still haven't found a nice game there) but I'm subscribing to a mag that sends out full games.(every other month now, every when I started)
On one mag they sent Fallout and I was bored with all games I had and started it (even though I just *knew* I'd hate it) and hated it,I was so mad that I had to play just a bit more and....a bit more and...bought Fallout2 cause I loved the game.
So nowadays I check RPG's -even though I know I won't like most- because there comes a pearl every now and then.
So now I'm a fan of Gothic and am utterly impressed with PB for releasing such a game as their first...simply amazing...

Dunno if they just do it in Sweden...but they're released in some EU countries.(think its origin's the UK)
"Incite PC games" is the name of the mag. anyway, not the best mag around, but not any worse than PC Gamer...and a full game never hurts. (tbh most are games I don't look twice at,but every now and then there's a nice one and since they're "free" I can't complain about those I dislike either )

Missed this I realize...
It doesn't ship a full game with every issue now,it used to,they decided to try to increase the quality of the game and ship a full game every other issue now.(12 numbers a year,so six full games/year)

I started out with pen&paper RPG in '82, but in medias games I actually fell for Wolfenstein 3D a few years later... not for one of those overly clumsy computer RPGs. I still own far more FPS games than CRPGs, but my all-time favorites mostly were games I wouldn't dare to call either FPS or RPG... 'action adventures with roleplaying elements', as most of them are commonly called, like the Lands of Lore games, the System Shocks, Realms of the Haunting, Cybermage, the Thiefs, Deus Ex, and so on. Gothic, I think, falls well into this category!

My favorite 'true' RPGs were Daggerfall and Torment.. so I'm not a 'true' RPGer, am I? Nevertheless I feel able to judge whether I like a FPS, RPG or 'action adventure'.
