Dragon Empires: Forum Tidbits |

Codemasters' staff are sticking with the technical angle for 'Dragon Empires' cancellation, rather than financial or other competition reasons. Satine had this to say on the official forums:
Guys and gals,

Sorry for the delay in posting, as you can imagine I have been involved in meetings all morning. I am extrememly sad to bring this bad news to you all. I am myself indeed quite shocked at the events of today.

As you are all aware, we did have some difficulty with certain aspects of the code, namely the server issues. Over the last month or two we have been reviewing the situation and looking for ways to resolve them, which inlcuded seeking external help.

However, after a full, in-depth analysis, research and review, it has been decided by the board that the project has too many risks to be considered viable at this time.

For now I'll still be here with you all, this website is remaining open so that we can all grieve together and so you can ask your questions and have a rant. It's absolutely gutting and if you feel anything like me, then you'll be devastated. Let's talk it through...

Satine.
Peter 'Calistas' Tyson, who preceeded Satine as CLM popped by the QuarterToThree forums:
Actually, money wasn't an issue in this case. Codies was happy to fund it to whatever degree as I understand it. Technology was the real killer and I think fundamental bottlenecks were found which would have taken many many months to fix, leaving DE old by the time it came out. I can really understand the decision, although it's still sad.

I sometimes think the cost thing is overblown and a good way to scare off competition Smile (there are great MMOGs which make piles of cash that cost diddly, Runescape, for eg). Sure, MMOGs cost, but so does any game. Managing your costs and having realistic estimates of your income is what it's all about.
|
