Ups, this autoleveling monsters is strange thing. It really seems that some monsters have firm level and are not leveling, random monster groups seems to levelup in some limits.

Someone reported about 21 level berserker in Arnike! That is big difference from what I met there.

I assume you're talking about Savant beserkers. I'm playing on normal setting, and they are coming up level 15-16 if I remember correctly. My quest path took me right from Arnika to Rapax area via the Northern Wilderness, so my levels were about what they are now (20-22) when I was last there. So far, I always found the Arnika fights to be on the easy side in comparison to other areas.

Well, I made it to the swamp, and ants, yes ants! are killing my crew. This never happened in my first game. I will restate what I have learned: don't buff yourself up in the first part of the game, go with the flow and move out of areas when required, don't make the mistake of leveling up your crew to much before leaving the monastery; because the monsters that you will meet will be much tougher than normal. My fighter is level 16, close to 17 and we are running from fights, they are just too tough

Max, what kind of ants are you seeing? Soldier ants led by a Queen are common for the swamp in a "normal" game. The little boogers that are on fire show up later in the game, but perhaps you're seeing them now? I'm curious because this might help resolve the argument about how random monster level is determined.

I have returned to Arnika, post-Savant tower. Still haven't seen the killer beserkers. Hardest thing I found in Arnika was a Savant Behemoth, and that was still inside the tower.

I'm just starting my second party in the game. It is definitely easier the second time through. It goes so much quicker.

One other observation -
My first party started at level 5 as an import from Wiz7. Being brand new, my second party started at level 1. I'm actually finding it quicker and easier to get through the lower monastery with lower level characters and monsters. Another bizarre result from the autoleveler. Other than reaching higher levels quicker, there is no "import advantage" because the monsters are so much tougher. Arnika road was especially tough to my first party, and I'm looking forward to trying it with a lower level party.

Arnika Road is pretty tough regardless. I'd say that the balance of monster level to party level is in the monsters' favor in that zone, at least more than anywhere else.

Yah! i agree with that last one. I've learned to develop Stealth early so i can sneak through. My last party made it to Arnika with only one combat, which i managed to run away from without getting hit. But i know the stuff i'm sneaking past always surprises me. It's like the first time you go to New City in W-7 and all the Rattkin jump you...
The real advantages to importing are:
1. You can bring Spellbooks
2. You can have 20 in all skills and 16 in all Schools.
3. Vi knows you, so you can dispense with Myles altogether.
Also, you can import and start the game without leveling up--it will load your mobs at L1. Then you can follow your favorite leveling strategy...

Well, I am going to change what I said before. It is better to buff yourself up at first. Sure, it gets tough when you first leave the monastery; but then you reach a happy medium and the benefits of early leveling up out weigh the early encounters of tough monsters. My mage and priest (yes, the priest) are doing more damage than my fighter and ranger. It is worth the time to stay and level up in the monastery. Stay until you get bored to death, then stay a little longer. Then come out kicking arse.
