Reguard, not able to use potions?

I just started a new game with a readguard-race-character.
There are only questionmarks when I try to view what effects a potion has.
He had 5 in alchemy to begin with, but I trained him to 10, but still I can't see the effects...

What gives?

Can't redguard use potions or what?

I just installed Tribunal, but it shouldn't have anything to with that, since my old characters can use potions...

Any thoughts?

Alchemy too low

Nope, any character of any race/class can use potions.

The problem is that your Alchemy skill is too low. Your other characters probably had Alchemy as a Major or Minor skill (started at 25 or 15 resp.), or had an Alchemy bonus as part of their race (Wood Elves?).

Even though you cannot see the ingredient effects, you should still be able to see if a potion has any effect on the mixing screen. So you can still try to make potions, but it'll take some investigation.

Probably best to train up or start munching those ingredients until Alchemy gets a bit higher though - at low levels you'll fail to make potions that much more.

Well, I don't intend to use alchemy with this character at all, just use potions... It is supposed to be a dark knight character, not a sissy cook...

Is there specific number you need in alchemy to be able to use potions? Like 15 or something? As I wrote, I have 10 right now...

alchemy skill has nothing to do with actually using potions...

Erm...

Okay, it's morning and I've just reread all this again. Okay, wrong end of the stick - I thought you were talking about seeing the effects of ingredients...

Yep, too right, Alchemy skill has NO effect on seeing the effects of potions. It's rather assumed that all potions upon creation get a sticky label detailing the effects attached to them.

So you can't see the effects of potions?!? What does the popup say when you roll the mouse over one? Are you definitely trying with a potion, not an empty flask (sometime encounter them)? If you go into a shop that sells potions (e.g. Nalcarya of White Haven (Balmora) or Arille's Tradehouse (Seyda Neen)), what does the potion list look like under the "Magic" tab?

Well, this is how a Quality Restore Fatigue looks like:

---------------------
Quality Restore Fatigue
Value: 175
? (This is where it is supposed to tell me what it actually does)
----------------------

Something seems to be wrong here...

I found out what it was...
You need at least 15 in alchemy to be able to see what a potion actually does...

I just spent 1300 golds to train this and now I have nothing left. 1300 in the beginning of the game is a lot...

sigh...
