Weapon choices as a Mercenary

I've completed the game as a Paladin and Magician now, and can finally play the Mercenary. I have a question, though...

What kind of weapons should I specialize in? I hear the mercenaries get the most powerful weapon in the game (110 dmg), but is that a 1H or 2H weapon? And also - should I train bow or crossbow? I'll go with crossbow unless you come up with some good reason not to.

Thanks.

The heavy Ore Dragon Slayer is a 2H weapon
crossbow = good, best ranged weapon is the Dragon Hunter crossbow, dex 85, dam 100

I think the best joke about the best crossbow though is that you find it so...... early.
