my exact error message when launching GOTHIC

Miles Error
The MSS DLL is incorrectly installed on your windows system directory

Error Startng Program
The MSS32.DLL file cannot start.
Check this file to determine the problem.

mss32.dll file - unable to open, it says that whenever i try to start GOTHIC. theres a error in it or something, installed incorrectly. the file is located in C:\WINDOWSSYSTEM and is a hidden file. i can find the file just fine and i dont see anything wrong w/ it (like i would know how to check..)

ive tried doing that repair thing from the cd and it installs the file again (after i delete it or whatever) but still get same error message when i try to launch GOTHIC

can someone email me this file or something please? rabbidmonkey4@aol.com

I would think that you would want to give us your version of Windows, so that a person with the same version could mail the file to you.

This info helps. Both the demo and the game are v1.08j, so itīs really strange the game doesnīt run.
When did you play the demo?
Is Gothic installed in the default dir?

Can you install Gothic on another pc to check if the cd isnīt damaged?

The only other serious idea I have is to reinstall windows to make sure there canīt be a conflict with the mss32 driver.

Before this you could try to copy all the data folders into the demo dir and overwrite the demo. Itīs quite possible that the only difference between demo and full version is missing data.

You could also go to Settings > Sound System in game. I personally find that EAX 2 is nicer for me and you'd bypass the Miles problem entirely. This isn't the first time I've read of problems with the Miles sound system so changing from it to something else might help, I dunno though ... but you might want to try.

ive tried EAX 2 or whatever and it wont let me select that sound driver whenever i go to settings and put he sound thing on that and start gothic back up again, the sound thing is back on Miles. i can get it to stay on that other direct sound or whatever but that doesnt change anything

anyway visiting forum again cause i cant hear people talk. still cant get speach to work. (got saves to work, yey!) gonna fool around w/ it some more, any suggestions on how to get the talking to work tell me.

(game is realy lame w/o actually hearing the peps talk)

I think you must press enter to save any setting, before you press back.
