WoW: Earnings Report says November? @ IGN

PC.IGN has pulled apart a recent Vivendi earning report and discovered some interesting dates for WoW:
Hidden amid the 51 PDF slides depicting Vivendi Universal Games' earnings report for the first half of 2004 was a discussion on growth drivers for the next few years, which included planned release dates for World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment's highly-anticipated massively multiplayer online game. Dated September 14 of this year, the document stated three different planned release dates: November 2004 in the U.S., December 2004 in Korea, "early 2005" in Europe and "later in 2005" in Greater China and Taiwan.
Read it here but don't take it as gospel.

After playing the stress test, there's no doubt in my mind that they will shoot for late November. The game was already better than some of the released ones. My guess is pvp will still need work at release, but they will figure that everyone will spend the first month pretty much leveling, so that will give them 30 days to sort it out.

Better not wait too long

After playing the trainwreck that is SWG for over a year, it is refreshing to see a gaming company that can wait and release a product "when it's done". This prevents a large amount of the playerbase paying to essentially beta test the game and is all around a good concept. I think this is the product of Blizzard maintaining some sort of control based on it's developer mindset so that games don't get released before they are ready.

However, without some pressure to get this game out asap they could be costing themselves many subscriptions. It's no surprise that many mmo's, including the 600 pound gorilla known as EverQuest II are trying to release very soon. I know for a fact that SOE doesn't have a problem pushing a game out of the door before it's polished and ready, so WoW could lose lots of potential subscribers if they don't at least start their open beta before EQII goes gold.
