Is Pirates of the Caribean worth buying? |
|
I need advice on whether I should buy PotC? I know it has gotten mostly bad reviews, but then so has Gothic 2 and we all know how great that game is. I would rather hear oppinions from the people who live RPG's.
Thanks. _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

Go to the Absolutely off topic forum and check out the thread about the game. It should help you. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

There are ton of reviews out there, not even one review that you think is any good for you? Opinions from RPG players? isn't their opinions also containing bias and personal preferences?
Beside, also need to base on your experience and ask yourself what kind game (or gameplay elements) that you like - not depend on what other people likes & dislikes.
Gothic 2 got bad reviews? so far i seen always score above 90% and very few lower scores, and even then it's above 85%. Still not enough? Want them all beyond 95%?. |

Damn, I wanted some friendly advice, not a freaking lecture!
I have read lots of reviews, and most of them were bad. BUT I also read lots of Gothic 2 reviews, and most of them were also bad (But I personally loved the game, as did most people here).

I know that. I am capable of making up my own mind, but does that mean I should not ask my like minded fellow RPGers? The reason I am asking is because I am undecided and I want some more info. (Be it personal oppinion or whatever). I am very much into RPG's and just because a generic game magazine doesnt like it doesnt mean I wont. So I would rather ask people with as much passion for RPG's as I have.

Oh joy, another lecture. No I dont want them beyond 95%. All the reviews I read averaged about 70%, and most of the content contained complains and hardly any good points.
Please dont post stuff like this. It isnt helpful and just insults my intelligence. _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

I haven't played it myself but a friend of mine enjoyed the game. He complained somewhat about the interface, but that was his sole complaint voiced to me. I hope that helps at least a little!

I bought Pirates and kept it for a day.......I think you can find out if your going to like it by then.
I didnt.
I have played all RPG's mentioned on these boards and it wasn't for me.
The interface was a bit "Janet & John"...sort of aimed at the under 12 year olds.
Maybe I didnt give it time, but I normally know if a game is for me within a day.
Thumbs down im afraid. Get it from GAME with their 10 day return policy......take it back if your dissapointed.
Regards,

Can't do that I'm afraid. Wouldnt be too cost effective to fly back to the UK just to try it out
EBGames used to have a 14 day guarantee here in the US, but they had to stop it cuz they were re-shrinkwrapping the returned games and selling them as new, which is very much illegal! _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

I enjoyed the game for a while, but it quickly got boring to me. You kept doing the same things over and over and the freedom - although pretty good covered up - is very limited. The game is rather buggy and the controls are quite bad. The graphics are good though, and the sound is okay. Still, it never gave me that 'pirate feeling' that I so desperatly seek. I had hoped for a Morrowind or Gothic in a pirate surrounding, but that is *not* what this game is. Unfortunatly. Woth a buy? Not in my opinion. _________________ CaptainWorshipperNonFlamer

Oh relax Chekote, sorry if my statements seem like going after you. I can be very direct at some time.
You can get some player reviews at http://www.pcgamereview.com/reviews/roleplaying/product_2178.asp
Of course there are other player comments with some further searching. So far both this game & Lionheart got pretty much consistent reviews and got scores in the range of 60-70%. |

How to know a game is crap for sure! |
|
If it's based on a movie it is almost guaranteed to suck. There are exceptions but very few.. Jedi Knight Outcast being one, awesome game. I avoid movie games like the plague and still buy dogs. |

@ NidPuterGuy From what I can gather it's not based on the Movie - it was orignally called Sea Dogs II, but the name was changed to PotC to cash in on the popularity of the Movie (if there was any, lol)
I tried PotC and couldn't figure out the interface (isn't that the fancy name for the controls? Lol), yeah, the graphics looked awsome, but I just didn't very far coz I couldn't get things figured. _________________ There're 3 sorts of people who're good at maths - those that are and those that aren't. |

If I want good game review info, I usually go to gamerankings.com. They keep track of the reviews of game mags and sites, then average them together to form a rating. You can then read individual reviews from the various sites they used to form the ratings. You can also get the ratings from user votes, if you want gamers opinions.
The average rating for PotC is 65.9% based on 30 sources.
The average rating for Gothic 2 is 78.3% based on 6 sources. _________________ Ha, Ha, Ha.... Oh, you were SERIOUS?

BTW: Not only the name that changed, In the beginning it was made to be a non-Fantastic game, which IMHO is much more cool than fantastic as it doesn't fit in this game. Also Sea Dogs 1 were MUCH BETTER than 2(PotC).
P.S. But it IS based on the movie. The only thing that is still like Sea Dogs 2 is the grafix.
