I hope it doesn't become a Xbox-game. I always hate it when good PC-games turn into console games. |

Gothic 2 and Conseal on Xbox
Xbox Maniacs | 9/26/2001
According to IGN, JoWood is planning on bringing two of their upcoming games to the Xbox in 2002. The two games are called, Gothic 2 and Conseal. Conseal has been described as a cross between Max Payne and Metal Gear Solid but with a female lead. Gothic 2 is a sequel to a third-person adventure game. The game forces the player to operate within a prison's social structure.

In my humble opinion it is impossible to get Gothic II running on xbox without rewriting the whole game. Only one point... like in Gothic I the whole level is loaded in memory -- Gothic II will be really huge. There is no way to get all the stuff into the fixed 64MB on the xbox without changing the game design (many small game levels).

The Xbox has a built in Drive of 8 gb. It is basicly a computer so I don't think you will have to change that much. Gothic also doesn't need the mouse to play like most other computer games so it is suited to be on a console. If Gothic 2 is coming out I might actually get an Xbox. They cut the Xbox price by $250 in the first 2 weeks of release in Australia. No one is buying it. Is this the case in other countries. I hope the load times will be quicker on the Xbox than my computer. Well I could just use the money to upgrade my computer anyway. _________________ =Moderator of The RPGDot Shadows=

Well xbox has a lot of value since it has games like Project Ego, Morrowind, Enclave, 2 lord of the rings games and other fantastic role playing games.
Also if you see project ego the view distance is almost infinite, so if they go with xbox in mind from the start and take advantage of constantly loading textures and world by the HDD into ram they can make a better optimized and better looking game for the pc too.
Let aside that xbox games have no bugs and run fast as games should
I could not play Gothic well with my 500Mhz P3 and Geforce 2, so why buy a geforce 3 card for almost the price of xbox (and more) and not buy the console ?
Of course in a well equiped pc (VERY EXPENSIVE ONE) it would run better and with more detail, for the lucky ones that can afford |

Well if they can put Morrowind on the xbox I'm sure Gothic 2 will work just fine. |

Just to mention two things:
1) who will (re)write the engine/data/design for the xbox
2) who pays for (1)

Well the publisher that will take it to xbox perhaps?
I really don't know. All i know is that if this game goes to xbox means money for the developers and the publisher that will take it. I think the first gothic proved that the game is very good and someone will take and publish it. So they would pay i think, but i really don't know how it works
I never though Gothic 2 would come to xbox, but i read the article about it coming to xbox from jowood in ign.com
So i have a not very good video card and an xbox. I will get the xbox version IF there is one rather than go buy another expensive video card
Let aside my slow processor |

Well getting Gothic 2 on xbox seems more and more a better idea
First of all look at the new xbox price at 199$, it is MUCH cheaper than a good geforce 3 or 4.It also is between geforce 3 and 4 performance, let aside that all geforce features can be enabled without worry about compatibility with other cards or hardware, which means fantastic graphics
Second is the controls. Well the mouse system does not work very well and is bit confusing. In xbox all could be done with a single button click, and the camera could be much better controled. Also the whole action system of Gothic is very well suited to a cosole control scheme, much like Morrowind's xbox controls
Finally the conversion will be much easier than on any other console. So why not do it since it means more money, and more people playing Gothic 2. I hope an anouncment will be made in E3 because since i have an xbox i am not willing to pay such autrageous prices for a geforce 3 to be able to play the game at its full capacity |

Everyone is missing the point... Nico is a Gothic dev, he knows what he's talking about! He said the Xbox isn't possible without a complete rewrite. I doesn't matter whether you think it's a simple thing to bring it to the Xbox, Nico says it isn't. _________________ ''Perhaps I'm old and tired but I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied.
