Gem dealer being difficult

ugh, for whatever reason the gem dealers door is locked.. I just finished the Troll Idol quest, and I still can't get in.. is there something I'm missing? the door to room 4 is locked.. and there doesn't appear to be any way in...

His door was locked for quite a while at the beginning of my game. But I could talk to him and home and he'd tell me to go to his shop during business hours.
