RPGDot Feature: Beyond Divinity Review |
|
Today we have an in-depth look at Larian Studios' 'Beyond Divinity'. Here's a snip from the review:
Whereas Divine Divinity was set in a fairly standard fantasy world, most of Beyond Divinity takes place in another dimension and Larian has created some unusual otherworldly settings and inhabitants. Beyond Divinity takes place across four Acts and each Act is completely different, both in setting and form. Many players will miss the large open world of Rivellon – I can certainly remember leaving Aleroth to be staggered by the apparent size of the gameworld. There are plenty of large maps in Beyond Divinity but because they are divided into separate Acts and locations you won’t feel the same amazement – but don’t let that disappoint you.
Click here to read the whole article and find out how the second visit to Larian's Divinity universe fares. |

You probably could have been more critical of the skill system, but the Larian's are good folk and deserve a pass. Playing BD in it's current form (Patch 1.42) chased me back to DD where I am currently enjoying another romp through Rivellion. Also, after about 10 hours my summoning dolls crash me, so no enjoyment there. Battlefields were an ok inclusion, and if you really don't have to go there all the better. They break up the feel of the game, and are buggy to no end. Very generic as well.
Don't go in expecting another gem like DD. This one, until patched into proper balance, is fairly mediocre. |

I don't agree with "mediocre" and I don't think it's as unbalanced as many are saying on the Larian forums. DivDiv is a better game but I liked the different flavour of BeyDiv. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

All opinion's aside, to any fence sitters, troll the Larian boards until they release a patch that doesn't spawn subject lines like "my player can't exit Battlefields anymore", or "why does my game crash everytime I click my summoning doll?". This game isn't a debacle, but it is currently hard to look past some of the more nasty gameplay issues. Give Larian two weeks to polish the game some. |

I really enjoyed your Review Dhruin; it was well written and fair. Yes, there are bugs and problems, but at least they are being dealt with speedily. Compare that to ToEE or perhaps M&M9!! I'm looking forward to playing it myself. Till then, it's back to DW!! _________________ If God said it, then that settles it!
