Hi again!! I started my character over and tried to play by the walkthrough. I'm trying to get to the smelting machine on L8. I manage to get to the room and up the ladder but don't see a machine from there. I looked on the map for it's position but I am running and fumbling around here. Is there any other way to kill the beast? I used almost 150 poision arrows and nothing but "DOUBLE DAMAGE". He isn't dying. Is the machine the only thing that can kill the beast? Thanks

. This part of the game threw everyone for a loop when it first came out. I was going crazy trying to figure out how to kill it "normally" until I got wise and figured maybe there was another way (and looked for help online, mind you)

As you enter the smelting room, the machine is on the far left wall. You have to qucikly run to that and put in the power stone, then head straight for the ladder. Before you do all this, be sure you picked up the dwarf meat from the dead dwarf guy.

Beast (Spoiler)

The beast has to be smashed to give you time to get to the office (room 16) by throwing the dwarve meat under the smasher for him and then pulling the lever that you find up the ladder in room 15. The machine you are looking for to turn on the smasher needs the power stone inserted in it. As you face the ladder while standing in the center of the room, turn left and see there are two machines on that wall. The one in the center of room is the one to activate the smasher. Run to it and on the right end of it down towards the floor, about your knees, is the insertion place. I suggest putting the stone in your hand and be ready to insert it, and you might be able to jump down there, put it in and run back up the ladder. I hope you have save game for this section though. It is hard to outrun the beast. Anyway, put in the stone and then go up, throw meat under smasher, (save here if you make it but before you throw the meat) and then throw lever on wall up there. Then run to 16 and get key and pull lever. As you leave the room again he is gone, but not forgotten. See if you can do the rest or I will give more if needed.

Thanks so much. Hard as I tried I couldn't see that darn machine but after you explained it I did okay. It was fun after that with the beast.

I also made the key for the bank. That didn't work well even with the invisiblity spell. They kept seeing the door open and catching me. Well I had to kill the guard and so I could at least see what was in the chests. I thought I snuck out but the guard outside was after me. At least I gave it a try.

Thanks again.

Cast confuse on the guard and Gary if he is there and no one will hurt you.

Yikes!! I'm reading your mind. I just did that and it was so funny. I haven't tried half these spells yet.
Did you ever play using the cheat in the beginning? I'm playing that way now and it has some strange things. I set my stats to high learning and potion making. I'm sure I saw at least one of those red cross things to give you more points that add to your stats. It's weird but somehow a few went up and some down. I have been L10 since the beginning but still can't get the strength up. I don't remember putting in 7for strength but now I know you need at least 8 to use and wear some of the weapons and armour. I remember setting Object Knowledge at 70 and it went back to 64. I can make all potions except the invisibility one at 64. Technical I set at 100 because I wanted to be able to lock pick and it went up to 114. I know this all sounds crazy. My XP points are 1000000 now and no level up yet. That's why I'm trying all the quests.

Well, I'm happy I found out about the bank but still can't do the chicken one. This time I put the emerald in and got the clue about the Troll mines. Went there and moved and searched but couldn't get the second clue. The last time I found the second clue but it was barely showing.

Over all what do you recomend for starting stats etc.? That's without the cheat. Thanks again!!

I tried bone cheat once, but it caused system to crash too many times, and I hate using cheats anyway for actuall game play. I just wanted to see what it looked like. Check your inventory and stuff you have on and be sure you don't have misery ring or some other enchanted item that is draining your stats. Take stuff off and out one at a time as you watch stats. Level 10 is it so you can't level up again. My understanding is that the stuff in your inventory makes you indistructable anyway. The chicken guy is in the crypts. Did you make the potion to give him? I think I remember you saying you downloaded the patch, but if you didn't, you cannot do chicken man. Second clue is under rocks, level 3, room 42. Next one you need helm of Poxsellis or cast reveal in level 3, room 4. It is a plackard stuck in the floor. Have fun. Don't forget to get the keys from Carlos and the King and open that big set of doors in the cave near entrance to Tavern. Save first as it is the end.

Now that you mention it I may have had that misery ring on by accident.
I started the chicken man clue the first time around and found the clue in the Troll mines. This time it dissapeared.
Well, now I know why the system is crashing. I really do love that sword in the cheat though. Thanks for the help again!!

I'm off on the chicken man search again. Finally found the clue in the Troll mines. I don't know about any keys from Carlos. The only one he gave me was to the crypts. He seems to have dissapeared since I confronted him with the queen's murder. Is that supposed to happen?

Need help with clue 4 of Oliver's Treasure Hunt. I did a search last night and found out about hitting the use button instead of clicking. I found the cave but spent hours trying to found where in the cave. There is no hot spot from what I read. Please point me in the right direction. I never finished this quest and would really like to. I'm about to give up now. Thanks for all help.

Clue 4

Use shove on the little ledge up to the left as you enter the cave area where the spiders and bodies were. As you enter that section from the troll mine area, if I remember, you keep walking to the left on ledge and go as far around that inside circle as you can. Look up and see the piece of ladder hanging down. Did under the ladder, but on that upper ledge, not down where all the bodies are. There is one body on the ledge I am talking about, and you have full view of bodies below you and teleporter straight across from you on other side of bottom cave. Hope this makes sence.

Thanks for the hint but that's not the one. In the walkthrough there is a list under Side Cheats about Oliver's Treasure Hunt. Clue #4 says use shovel in level 6, room 30 to find next note. According to the walkthrough the one with the ladder is clue #6. I must be the only one who can't find clue 4.

I finally beat the Lich in the Akbaa temple area. I have a method aquired by reading some hints here. I use invisibility, mana drain and fireballs. I tried invis before but was using the potions and they don't last long. Then I tried casting mana drain and invis. If you cast mana first invis won't last. So cast invis first then mana and run right up to the lich. It's mana keeps both going while you cast and throw fireballs at it. You have to stay close of the mana drains.
Also accidently killed the Golem. I was throwing fireballs at it and hit it's leg. It toppled over and died. LOL!!! One fireball aimed right and down he goes.

I have everything for the final fight but am waiting in hopes of doing the Oliver quest. I hope you can remember clue 4. Thanks so much again!

Possible correction about Olivers Hunt. In the walkthrough the clues are numbered starting with #1, placing the emerald. After doing that you get a paper clue so is that then #1 or #2. Thanks

Clues

So sorry. My mistake. I messed up. My brain just went to the one so many others asked about. Clue four is where you said. According to walkthrough list, but map shows one back at level 4 again, room 48, near the corpus I think. I really can't remember, and I have deleted the game at this time. I don't remember one on 6 room 30. This is strange. Maybe we can get a Moderator to answer, or send email to Julian Roby at Arkane. I never noticed the discrepency before. Glad I could help with some of it at least. If you find it, Post a new thread for all to see. Hope you get it.
