10 times is an exaggeration. Maybe 1-1\2 or 2 times as much. |

I imagine this situation:
- Bethesda allows you to set view distance to for example 300% of todays max. values
- noone will be able to use it
- people will be very disapointed with MW engine: "Why they did it so badly, why it doesnt run with everything max on my high-high-high-end PC?"
We hear this today, with this option it would be much worse. |

I agree with the original poster, it would be absolutely incredible if we could push the view distance say 3X or more of what the max is now.
Yes, most people's machines can barely handle the max distance now, but some of us like myself can, and would like to enjoy the insane beuty of the game at that level.
Yes, the game looks incredibly how it is, but don't be ignorant and say that the current fogging effect looks realistic. In real life you can see more than 300 feet off or so.
Yes I know exactly why the fogging is there and the default fogging level is perfect. But it would be cool if we could push it way further.
The orginal poster simply said it would be cool if we could push the fog back alot further, and I totally agree.

Danicek: Agree. I bet that most muscel-machine owners would be pleased if the max detail would be lower, so they can run on max detail. |

Well, Baldur's Gate 2 really only could handle I believe 800x600 resolution. But they allowed the user to get beyond that with the preferences and the understanding that any resolution greater would be unsupported. It would be nice if the developers could do the same thing with the view distance (BIG WARNING: At YOUR OWN RISK) But it could be there really is nothing beyond the fog so you can have real time loading. But only the developers know for sure.

You can see this clearly in the editor, turn off fog and lower view distance and the cells suddenly "pop" into view. |

The ludicrously clear skies at night put the kybosh on the idea that the fog is due to Vvardenfell |
