While I have nothing against having Console RPG's on RPGDot (I love Console RPG's as much as PC ones), I dont think it be very popular. The reasons being:
1. Most people who play console games do not use PC's
2. Most hardcore PC RPGers dont play consoles
3. Most people at RPGDot are hardcore RPGers
4. Console RPG's are very linear, and players do not require much assistance when playing them, so rarely go to forums to discuss the game.
considering the combination of the reasons above, there would a severe lack of interest in Console RPG's at this site.
NOTE: Yes, most people who play PC games also play console games.
1. Not true, as you said in your note already. Most console players have also some kind of computer.
2. Can be true. I don't know.
3. That's deffinately not true. I would say hardcore PC users. I know of acopple of other people that they really like to play strategic games. (Even more then RPG) And I can hardly consider myself as a hardcore RPG player. It's just FPS that I hate and other forums get spammed by those (mostly childish) FPS lovers.
4. That is very true. KotOR for example: In the beginning you think that you have all freedom. You see only a few limitations on Taris. But later on it's really pushing you forward. _________________ Moderator and Council Magician of the RPGDot Shadows

for me the PC would be better for most games, but not much.
- FPS's must be PC only, they have such irritating controls on the console, using both sticks to move just causes brain damage. and using a sniper is the same as trowing a rock trough a circle when your blind.
- RPG's would be a multi-platform. but I think PC is still better. you have better overview, better controls, better graphics. that is enough to buy it on the PC.
- Racing games are platform games, very easy controls, and much more fun. the arrow keys are just... old.
- TPS's can be multi-platform, but same as FPS's the sniping and aiming is too hard at the console.
- beat em up's are multi-platform. both the console and the PC have great oppertunities for that. both controls are easy, maybe the console controls are even more easy.
those are (for me) the most important PC/Console genres.

I play mostly RPGs on Console and the occasional Action games I Do play have RPG features, but granted, many other consolers play several other genres as well as RPGs.
Don't understand the relevance of that statement...

I don't agree that the production quality is better on PC, I've played Arx and Morrowind on PC and XBox and both were better to play, as well as visually better, on XBox.
There is only one way those games could possibly look better on XBox: You have an underpowered PC. Which is most likely because you obviously prefer Console games over PC ones and most likely spend most of your money on console games/systems (Which is by no means a bad thing. each to their own).

[1]Every consoler (and I belong to a few console gamers forums) I know uses a PC - they may not play many games on their PC, but they DO use them.
I should have worded that better. I meant Play Games on PC, not just use PCs. You would be hard to find a household in these times that does not have a PC in it...

[3]I agree, 'most poeple at RPGDot are hardcore RPGers'. I'm no different because I choose to play RPGs on console too, I'm still a 'hardcore RPGer'.
I consider myself a very active RPG fan, but I would not say I am a HardCore RPGer, simply because I love console RPG's. To me, a Hardcore RPGer is someone who has to have the kind of features that are ONLY found in PC games such as Baldurs Gate and PS:T. They usualy turn their noses up at the simplicity and linearity of console RPG's.
The fact that both you and I play console RPG's ensures that we are no Hardcore RPGers.
But this is just a matter of definition, the point I was trying to make is that I think the Majority of people at RPGDot would prefer a PC RPG over a Console RPG any day. (Maybe we need to have a pole to verify this, because I could be wrong).

Console RPGs are no more or less linear than PC RPGs.
I am sorry but that is just completely wrong. Sure there are a few exceptions to the rule, but 99% of console RPG's are completely linear. Trust me, I have a closet full of console RPGs and I could take out the ones that were not linear and no one would even notice a difference...

with regards to your statement that console players don't require assistance and rarely go to forums I beg to differ. In fact this is the only, mostly, PC game help place I come to, all the others are consolers aking and giving help.
Well maybe its just the people I know then... I know they exist, but I personaly have never even seen a forum dedicated to assistance in a Console RPG. I am sure there are very few console RPGs that would even require it. Maybe games like KOTOR or Morrowind, but neither of those are typical console RPGs.
In fact, I would go as far as to say that if it wasnt for the XBox, ALL console RPGs would be linear...

An RPG is an RPG regardless of what it's played on.
Obviously!
But the point was whether or not to include console RPG's on RPGDot, not to justify them being called an RPG.

The two most raved about and anticipated RPGs this year are Fable and Jade Empire and both of them are coming out on console ONLY, surely that says a lot for the console versus PC debaters that swear that PC is better, obviously it isn't for these 2 games at least. I'm not saying that consoles are better I'm merely pointing out that RPGs can, and are, being played just as well on both mediums.
Yes you are right. RPG's to seem to be moving more towards consoles. But I put it to you that most of them are RPG-Lite. I believe Fable will be an amazing game, BUT its kind (Morrowind, KOTOR etc) are very rare). You need far more than four games to justify the RPGDot staff to spend their time on console RPGs.
P.S. I doubt very much that Fable and Jade Empire will remain XBox exclusives for very long. It has nothing to do with what system is better. The only reason those games are XBox exclusives is because M$ has plenty of cash to bribe developers for exclusives.

I, and maybe others, don't feel we should be excluded merely because we find it easier to play the same RPG on a console.
No one is saying you should be excluded. You are free to come here and talk about the games as much as you want. But you have to understand that any work put into Console RPG news is going to take away from the PC RPG stuff. I am sure the RPGDot staff have enough work on their plate, and wouldnt want to spend their precious time on something else unless it have a significant return in the value of the site.
This site is primarily a PC RPG site, and I am sure doing anything to detract from that would upset the majority of the sites visitors.

You misunderstand the note.
point 1 said:
Most people who play console games do not use PC's
the note said:
Yes, most people who play PC games also play console games.
They are mutualy exclusive statements.
to put it another way:
If you play games on a PC, you are likely to play games on a console aswell. But if you play games on a console, that doesnt mean you play games on a PC.
Have Gaming PC = Most Likely Have Console.
Have Console = Possibly have Gaming PC, but no guarantee.

I can guarantee you that there are far more than a couple of people here on RPGDot....
Just because you and a couple of people you know are not HardCore RPGers doesnt prove that the majority of RPGDots patrons arent either.
Again, maybe we should have a poll for this just to verify... _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |
