Skeleton Gold (!?)

Ok...........

So a quick poser that occured to me whilst playing Dungeon Siege, but could equally apply to a lot of other games. When you kill a skelly and it drops its loot of primarily gold coins..........where has he been keeping the gold ???????

I am sure we could come up with some rather curious answers.

Slotted into their spinal column
Balanced on their skulls

who knows....please tell

Regards,

Hex

That's not just a problem with skeletons. In some games where you have animal monsters, some of them have stuff on them as well. Animals! With gold and equipment! Just think of Diablo where each and every birdy and fly carried tons of equipment! Now where would a mosquito store the stuff?

Well... 'it's just fantasy' is not reason enough for me .

Good question! Each skeleton should have a penny in its mouth if it's a Greek or Roman skeleton

One can assume that in the case of animals you are just acquiring some body part that can then be sold ... like bright feathers, or poison ... and the game system is just being nice to you by giving you gold instead of making you keep track of 17 boar tusks, 22 shiny wings, and 333 feathers. But then, in a *lot* of games, that is inconsistant with other animals actually dropping skins etc.

So maybe there is a bounty that magically appears when you slay the appropriate animal ... kind of like a tooth fairy, but you don't have to put the carcass under your pillow

Another related question, why don't skeletons/other tool using creatures leave behind the weapons they were fighting with? Or better yet use the weapons they do drop?

I think the answer is "It makes a better game". Or at least the designers think so. Some games do have realistic drops (Betrayal at Antarra), and leave me frustrated since I can not carry all the loot to sell it! I feel like I am leaving money on the ground (which I am) and so have to decided between keeping the game moving, or making some spare cash. So the designers might be onto something.

Ummm, Yog, I am not sure what you are refering to. Did you mean for this to post here, or am I just 100% clueless

Probably me being clueless - it is Monday morning here in the states, and my brain has yet to really wake up

I suppose my answer would be they are floating in mid-air right around where the skeleton's pockets would be. If their bones can float around with nothing holding them together apparently defying gravity, I suppose their coins could too.

Everyone knows that you have 0-th level anyone can use spell that turns monsters to gold and useful items. Even mario had that spell. Duh. You guys are so out of it.

Heh. I loved little flying bird things in Diablo 2 dropping sets of Ornamental Plate or such on Hell difficulty. Every time it happened it provoked a 'where the hell did that come from' discussion...

Except by the thief/pker sorceress who inevitably telekinisis everything the second it drops just to be sure.

The animals eat the items.

Why would an animal eat gold or Ornamental Plate?!? I mean, humans do stuff that stupid all the time, but I expect sensible behavior out of animals. And skeletons. But they used to be humans...

I shall now retreat to my cavern and ponder this. (Sigh) I wish I had a cavern.

Maybe the monsters eat people whole in one bite! Then they'd eat all of a person's belongings too!

Still doesn't explain how a midge cloud can eat a set of plate mail I mean, midges are hungry, but do they have bags of holding instead of stomachs??

I think you've stumbled on their secret. Yes indeed... those swarms of bugs you run into in Diablo (the annoying clouds of gnats that like to strip the flesh from your bones) have a collective stomach!

But I still feel bad for that bird that swallowed a war pike 10 times its size.
