Mecenary: Wich Skills are important??

First of all, i'm terribly sorry for my bad english..

I'm a Level 9 Mercenary.

Strenght 30
Dexterity 20
Mana 5

Weapons skill
1Handed--> 30%
2Handed--> 10%
Bow--------> 20%
Crossbow--> 10%

Forge Weapons--> Learned
Hunting---> Learned
Picklocks--> Learned

I want to become a strong melee warrior and a great archer (i like bow!)

What can i do in the future for my mercenary?

1) Increase 1handed weapons?
2) Increase only 2handed?
3) Increase both 1h e 2h?

Long distance:

4) Increase ONLY bow?
5) Increase ONLY crossbow?

Help ME!
Thanks to all!

The learning system is little more complicated then in Gothic1. If You want to get 100% at 2handed weapons You will be forced by the game to learn 1handed to 60%. The same with bows and crossbows. So choose wisely one meele and one ranged and work with them. 2handed are more powerfull (but not as in part 1) but 1handed faster. While there is no shield present in the game I choose 2handed. Bows are faster, crossbows more powerfull.
Both will do job nicely.
Don`t be obsessed with Your english skills. Myself I`m from Poland. Here You can meet people all over the world. Nobody cares how good or bad Your english is. Worst somebody will ask You to explain further.
Btw I didn`t noticed mistakes in Your post, but maybe it`s because of my poor English knowledge.

I played with 1handed till half chapter 4 (oh my mighty Orcslayer).
1handed or 2handed depends on the style of fighting. You can easily finish the game with 1handed. More important is that You should have them on 100% and max strenght You can get.
Later when there are special weapons to get, playing as paladin I was able to choose if most powerfull weapon in my game should be 1 or 2handed.
So if You like faster weapons - take 1handed.

You will get both 1h and 2h all the way up by the time it is all said and done. I'm a level 16 Merc now (still in chapter one so I'm not the best authority on key skills for later chapters...but.) I say forget about bows and crossbows and go all out Str. and Sword skills. Skinning animals is good to have and I guess pickpocketing (but you need 30 Dex. to have that really work). I have only spent points into lockpicking, skinning animals, and then the rest to Str. and 1h. So far I have 81 Str. and 70% 1h/40% 2h. BTW, I got so high in chapter one by killing anything that moves and it worked out well. I explored the whole map, leveled up a bunch of times and should be good to go when I get to the valley, I recomend everyone level up to at least lv 12, then you will be an ok fighter.

With my Orc Slayer blade at 70% and the 81str bonus to critical hits I can wipe the floor with most enimies, damn skeletons still give me a run for my money though, especially if there are more than one then I'm almost always history because of my crappy light merc armor. SO, that is my advice.

Just told You what I did. Nothing more. Game is so great and free there is no "one best possible walkthrough" ore "one best possible way to play". Feel free to explore and feel the freedom of exploration.
I wish You great fun.
