Hi guys...
This game reminds me Ultima series that used to make me upgrade my PC in order to enjoy them. Anyway i had a PIII 733, 256 ram, Gforce2 MX 400 and the game was NOT enjoyable (playable tho).
I got an Athlon 1800 and a new MB (Gforce 4200 is not available here yet).
I also kept my 256 sdram dims for now (the MB is a SIS 735 which support
sdram and ddr).
The game now is running ok outdoors with full distance at 1024 (no shadows, 15% AI, no pixel shading) 10 to 25 FPS, and smoothly indoors 30 to 50 FPS. Maybe i wont buy the VGA after all.....
BTW is Pixel shading worth it? |

I think that it is very useful and visual quality improving technology that is supported in many games and will be supported in nearly all new titles. |

I upgraded for the game too. Personally I was really amazed by the pixel shading and considered that the best bit of the upgrade. _________________ Its not the destination its the journey |

Sadly, You are not gonna gain much framerate wise with a GF4. I'd sell the sdram off with your old mobo, proc. and get ddr though. Thats a 20-50% increase that directly affects your playability.
And get the 4200 also, just because.
I wish this game was more like the others, where framerate ruled, and I was the king. |

Yes, all games that need strong PC will run smoother with DDR than with SDRAM. And everything will be quicker, not only gaming. RAM is very important part of your PC. |

Update continues.....
I replaced my 256MB sdram with 512 MB ddr 233. There was not any increase in FPS (or it was less than 10%). The loading times are sorter tho and winXP run faster..
I'l let you know the results of my Gforce2MX400 upgrade to Gforce4200 in a couple of days
Cheers! |
