For the parents of the 10yo -- deal with it or get 'em off. When you allow your child to play an open game with thousands of other players of every age and background, you automatically cede control of what your child is exposed to.
As said already, Blizzard will try to create an environment where proper parenting does not involve forbidding them to play WoW. Generally speaking, you cede absolute control of your child's influences when allowing them to go to school, ride a bicycle, or have friends of their own. The question is only whether the influences they are exposed to are acceptable. Having played WoW for several months, I would say that most of the things you see there are not worse then some particularly gruesome fairy tales, but when people start to bring their sexual issues to the game, this changes. This is also be the case for christian or muslim guilds, if there are any, but especially so for those centered on sexuality. |

That's not quite right. There are most definitely Christian-friendly groups...being the anti-social SOB I am, I've not noticed black or fat groups -- but I would be surprised if some or all of these don't exist.
For those tired of the issue, you do realise Blizzard raised it, right? Do you see problems in City of Heroes, EverQuest, Lineage...? Isn't it also a little disingenuous to contribute to discussion on the issue but then complain you are sick of it?

Maybe there is, I never saw the Christian friendly guilds, or ones promoting crhistian frieddlyness.
But answer this? Can a guild be non-christian friendly? Or anti-gay? Or does that go against the ToU and eula and aginst anti-discriminatory/harrassment policies?
Is this even an issue? _________________ Vegitarian is the Indian word for lousey hunter. |

It's the heterosexual's bringing their sex lives (and the sex lives of others) into the game with "That's gay" and "He ganked me -- what a fag!"
The GLBT-friendly guild was a way for gays to *EXCAPE* these slurs and constant sexual references so they could just play the game.
If you want 10 year old Johny to not hear the pervert stuff, you'd want him to JOIN the GLBT guild as there would be no talk about such things there.
There are people that try to start Christian guilds. They mostly get laughed at. Can't say I've actually seen one, but rumor is they would be disbanded if discovered. |
