Lots of Skills and Attributes Questions Here

I am a little fuzzy on how the skills and abilities overlap.

When you use a skill (long blade, for example), after a while, your skill level will increase.

After your skill has increased enough levels, you will get some points to spend on your stats (Strength, for example).

The Manual says that your major skills raise faster. Does that mean, that it raises your abilities more too? If I raise a major skill (Long Blade, for example), will that give me a bigger multiplier, when it comes time to rest and raise my ability scores. I have noticed that sometimes, there is a x2, x3, x5 next to an ability score.

All I know: is that major skill raise fastest,
minor next, and misc are the slowest.

I am a little fuzzy, on what determines your % (and things like that) to hit a monster. Is it your weapon skill, is it my agility, is it a lot of factors? Another example would be blocking. Does agility (or any stat) how any influence on your ability to do this, or is it just your skill level?

And part B, of my question is: Is a skill a skill, regardless of weather it is major or minor? Meaning, does a skill level of 50 mean the same thing anywhere (major, minor, or misc)? Is a skill of 50 in Major better, then a minor skill of 50? Does Major, Minor, Misc, simply determine how fast that stat will increase and how high your skill is to start with?

And finally part C: For the favorite attributes, the character creation says it just gives you +10 of each to start out. But does this also give other benefits such as letting them raise faster or having them be more effective?

Sorry to be so long winded, but I did not know how to ask this with one sentence.
