My comments on yesterdays games:
The Germans played a fairly good game, and in my opinion deserved to win the match against Holland. (Sorry Xerox, Neo_G. and others, it had to be said)
The Dutch disappointed me a bit, especially their mid-field seemed week against the Germans, without Mr Nistelroy they surely had lost against the Germans
The Czech, had a maybe to difficult game against Latvia, but it always tough to play against an outsider nation that fights from their hearts. But the Czech really strength compared to the Germans and Dutch is a bit hard to determine
The Latvia fight very well, and do not show overly respect for their opponent, but I'm afraid they still will end up last in this group, they still lack international experience. _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

Of I still have time, here's my bets, but I must say that even if they have started I am not watching.
Czech vs. Latvia - 2 - 1
German vs. Dutch. - 1 - 1
I'm sorry "Lady A", as a contest manager, for the fairness sake I have to rule in the favor of the rules, and say that your bet Czech Vs Latvia should not count as it was much to late, and it's not about believing wether you have seen the game or not, just harsch rules.
But your your bet Germany vs Dutch you nailed right on.
Edit: Seth: Would you be so kind to bring the score-board "up to date", and perhaps bring it here upfront in the post-series
No offence taken, and you should be sorry for nothing Michael, after thinking it ofer I was going to suggest that my prediction for the Czech vs Latvia game not be taken into consideration as I am for fair play and I certainly made the bet far too late, regardless of whether I saw the game or not. |

First thing first
@ Neo_G you forgot to put the joker on one of your bets! (joker doubles your points and it is very precious so use it wisely)

The goal was not lucky. It´s exactly the trick that the ball goes into the long corner if no player can reach it and move it into the short corner. That´s why free kicks from such a position are so dangerous.
Of course Germany was clearly better for 60 minutes, but I think the draw was okay in the end. I´m more than happy how well the German team played.
Things would have looked a bit differently if Germany had gotten the penalty when Stam (?) kicked Kuranyi in the face. There was an interesting discussion on German TV with a former FIFA referee, Lothar Matthäus and Rijn Van Duijnhoven. The referee said this was a 'contact foul' and a clear penalty, although it was incredibly hard to see. On the other both Matthäus and Van Dijnhoven said they wouldn´t have given a penalty because it was a normal in-game incident. Both players went for the ball with a lot of risk. Shit happens.
Hard to decide, but I think you can find several referees who would have given a penalty.
The other group is up for a surprise now. Greece will win against Russia. Then they have 7 points and a good chance to win the group. Even a draw is enough to qualify. Spain and Portugal will fight for the 2nd place. Portugal must win to qualify, Spain has to win to maintain their chance for 1st place. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Yes i think Greece will get at least a draw against Russia, so Portugal and Spain have to decide in their head-to-head match which one of them will qualify to the quarter finals. _________________ Fear is a dangerous thing: fear leads to hate and hate leads to suffering - Yoda

There are few thoughts I always forget to mention.
1. The game between Portugal and Greece, you guys remember? It was last week. Every commentator was saying that the Portuguese team was under extreme pressure, to me it seemed like they clearly underestimated them.
2. What’s with Beckham, tattoo on his neck, some black eagle plus both forearms, he looks like neo-Nazi now.
3. BTW I hate the divers, one moment they roll all over with pain on their face and the next they just keep running like nothing happened. I though that morphine was illegal substance in these competitions. _________________ Money - An article which may be used as a universal passport to everywhere except heaven, and as a universal provider of everything except happiness. |

indeed, it was a quite hard kick Stam gave there. I think if the ref saw it, he woulv'e given a panalty. but, as you said, they both reached for the ball, Stam with his foot, and Kuranyi with his head.

My thoughts:
The Divers: They deserve yellow card, if no faul was committed
Beckham: What can I say, He obviously like to be in the spotlight, but why not have a advertisement for "Nike" or something on the neck instead, and score a few extra millions $.
The Germans was cheated for a penalty against Holland. Stam kicked Kuranyi in the face, not intentional but against the rules. If you raise your leg in head level, and a opponent is near, you commit a penalty, even though you don't hit him. But I also think the judge didn't saw Kuranyi get kicked, even though his blood should give him a hint, but he couldn't have missed that Stam raised his leg in a dangerous level close to Kuranyi.
Portugal: Deserved to win against Russia, but besides "Figo" I'm not that impressed of the Portugal team yet, I thought thay would be a little stronger, but perhaps they will raise against Spain. They have to if they want to stay in the game.
Russia: Have many good individual players, but their team play and tactics is almost none excisting, at least I fail to see the red line in their play. BTW Their goal keeper didn't touch the ball with his hands outside the goal-field against Portugal, but you have to watch the slowmo very closely to determine it.
Greece: A team with no really "Star" on the team, but with strong tactics, and good team play. Their German coach really had prepared the Greeks well against Spain. Greece will be a team that is very hard to beat.
Spain: I'm not overly impressed by Spain so far, it seems that they ,like the Italians, don't commit them self 100% yet. They play a little arrogantly, like it's only a matter of time when they are going to play the finals. But none the less a strong team, no doubt. _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

For the next betting round I will post the same as Eric. I'm now convinced he has to have some influence in the highest regions off the scoccer world.
Greece: Isn't it the first time they got more then one point in a 1st round of an international soccer championship? And now they are going to the 2nd round. (or they should lose from Russia with more goals then Spain would lose from Portugal. -> highly unlikely) _________________ Moderator and Council Magician of the RPGDot Shadows
