RPGDot Feature: Space Hack Review

If you are in the mood for some hacking and slashing, Kalia takes a look at Rebelmind's budget-priced sci-fi action/RPG, 'Space Hack'. Here's a snippet:
According to the Rebel Mind's site: "Space Hack is a sci-fi RPG/action title with Diablo-inspired game play mechanics, presented in real-time 3D graphics. Playing role of a tough warrior you will be struggling to reach an emergency transporting module, hacking and slashing your way through hordes of alien creatures taking over your ship."

The comparison to Diablo is an appropriate one and it is very clear that the developers have tremendous respect for both the game itself and Blizzard Entertainment. Space Hack has taken some elements from Diablo and expanded upon and improved them to make a highly addictive and entertaining game.
Read it all here.

It would get a 4/10 on my scale. 5/10 = average RPG. I do prefer phased or turned based RPG's with detailed character development though. Probably would give diablo a 4 as well, maybe lionheart a 5/10. Don't like those clickity click RPG's much.

I would give it a go if they released it in English.

That's why giving it any type of score as a traditional RPG is difficult at best. Since it really is better classified as an 'action RPG', it's better scored that way. Traditionalists who love the character development and deep quests that come with hardcore roleplaying would NOT like this game.

And, Methusala: It is out in English. You need to check http://www.meridian4.com which is the website for the North American distributor.

I think this game is the best "Diablo clone" currently available. The combat mechanics are quite similar to the Blizzard game, and far better than something like Sacred or Dungeon Siege (speaking only about the actual combat).
The game doesn't feature a lot of interesting quests (it's a typical hack'n slash game), so it gets somewhat boring after a while, but the space setting actually makes for a nice change from the usual fantasty games.

The game is worth the low retail price, especially to European gamers (since the game can be found for £0.99 at Game.uk.com).
