Silly question...but do I have the Englsih version?

I know..silly question.

I ordered the "english version" from the web in uk back in Sepember. My language in the game is English but there are a few places where it is german.

I did not buy the Gothic II that was recently released in the stores here in the U.S because I am not sure if the version I bought and the one that was released in the stores here are the same...

can anyone tell me how I can find out? I do not want to buy the same exact game twice..chuckle.

If the speech is English that's it. There are places in the notes that weren't translated, potions, runes and animal parts. There's a fan patch someplace that fixes that.

Ther are two English versions of the game. Only some very minor bug fixes between the two. The US version is 1.32 and the most common version is UK 1.31. The somewhat bad 'hick-ish' voice acting is the same in both versions.

The US version comes in a box (with ATARI in Red as publisher), the UK version comes in a DVD case (JoWooD) and the disk are not numbered correctly when installing, if you noticed. The two covers have a different cover shot picture.

You can download the small patch to fix one bug (German text showing up in the skill journal) easily for the UK version 1.31 here at this website. Click on Gothic2 > Gallery > Special. The file is G2text1 Mod.

http://newspics.rpgdot.com/galview.php?level=3&sort=&from=0&d2=611&d3=Special&d4=&d5=
Just unzip and substitute that file (gothic.dat) for the original. That will bring it up to almost the same as the US version which already has the text fixed.

I did mis-spell one word in one spot 'SORD' for 'SWORD'. But it is 99% perfect. Nice patch if I can brag for myself.

Use the patch and save your money if you already have UK version; if you get the 'I can not wear two rings at once' buglet; just unequipe your armor suit and you will be able to wear two rings at once. Rare buglet and easy to work around it by doing that to fix it, in case it happens.

Never read where they fixed that bug in the US version though. Oh well, sorry Atari, bought it from someone else. Might be the same way with G3.

Thanks for da patch

Just found the site yesterday looking for tidbits on how to discover lil nuances for the game and stumbled on this thread. One of the more annoying parts of getting the G2 game early here in the US was it had the German text in the skills learned in your journal. Nice fix Thanks for sharing it with everyone
