Warfner Bros. has lifted the NDA for 'The Matrix Online' beta testers and announced launch dates of March 22 for the US and April 8th for Europe:
The Matrix Online Launches March 22, 2005 in the US and April 8, 2005 in Europe.

The highly anticipated continuation to the Matrix film trilogy, The Matrix Online will begin unveiling a story full of twists and action when the game is released in March in US and April in Europe. The massively multi-player online game co-published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and SEGA has been in beta testing for months and features many of the original talent from the films - Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus), Monica Bellucci (Persephone), Mary Alice (The Oracle), Lambert Wilson (The Merovingian), Harold Perrineau Jr. (Link), Harry Lennix (Lock), Nona Gaye (Zee), Collin Chou (Seraph) and Tanveer Atwal (Sati).

As the depths of the The Matrix Online have yet to be revealed, the first look into the political factions within the game will be uncovered through nine exclusive game trailers supporting each of the organizations - Zion, the Machines and the Exiles. The trailers will cross reference each other and will culminate with an in-theater trailer very soon. Keep an eye out for trailers supporting the faction you want to join. Three of the trailers launch today (2/14) and will be linked from www.thematrixonline.com.

Fans who pre-order The Matrix Online will enjoy the added bonus of special in-game abilities, access to the beta and an early entrance into the game. There's still time to take the plunge and pre-order; simply go to: http://thematrixonline.warnerbros.com/preorder.html.

The Matrix Online will be sold through all major game retailers for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $49.99. Gamers can either subscribe online for a monthly subscription fee of $14.99 or purchase pre-paid game cards with 60 days worth of play time for $29.99.

Developed by Monolith Productions in conjunction with the Wachowski Brothers, creators of the Matrix trilogy, the game is a re-creation of the virtual world of the Matrix. The visually stunning game employs cutting edge 3-D graphics, networking and server technology. Gameplay in The Matrix Online is based on intricate and exciting "wire-fu" combat, an extensive mission structure, social interaction and completely customizable skill and ability system.

Not sure

Disclaimer: I know the game is currently in beta phase.

What a horrible, derivative game.

There is no difference between this game and Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Asherons Call, World of Warcraft, Ryzom, Star Wars Galaxies, shall I continue?

Gameplay = Do quests that have you a) Kill NPCs
b) Escort NPCs
c) Deliver items to NPCs
Rewards = Experience towards gaining levels and coin.

The exact same formula as every other MMOG out there dressed up in a successful motion picture franchise license.

The absurdity of it all is unreal.

edit

Oh I know, there will be a dozen posts telling me how this game is so unique and different from all the others. Log on to any message board for any of the above listed games (and all other MMOGs I did not mention) and you will find these types of rebuttals.

Those posts look like this:

*** is so much better than ***. For one, the +++ is incredible.
I added the following on the VN boards for more fun filled whiny goodness.

You can do so much more than just killing things like ###.

Replace *** with any MMOG.
Replace +++ with crafting, PvP, RvR, quests, siege, missions, raphics, sound, emotes, skills, physics, depth, faction, et al.
Replace ### with crafting, owning a home, making furniture, PvP, quests, missions, et al.

After writing this, I realized I should whine and expound to a larger audience and post it to every MMOG forum in the world.

Matrix Online is not any worse in particular.
I was just shocked to log on find it exactly the same.
