I see that many have had this problem - that is seeing practically nothing but gray. I have read all the posts and they provide no help.

My video driver is, according to the Gothic folks, MORE recent than the game (nVidia TNT2). Gothic also tells me to edit the gothic.ini file. The problem is that I cannot find that file! It is NOT in the Gothic directory. Is it somewhere else?

Gothic.ini should be in Gothic/system folder.

There is (because this file is required to run the game properly).
Look again for [GOTHIC]SystemGOTHIC.INI
(where [GOTHIC] is the gothic installation dir, e.g. C:Program FilesPiranha BytesGothic )

To disable the fog (which schould be the reason for your problem) set...

[RENDERER_D3D]
...
zFogDisabled=1
...

TRUST ME! It isn't there! It may be somewhere else since the game does load, but it is NOT in the C:ProgramsPiranah-BytesGothicsystem directory!

If 'hide known file extentions' (or similar) in Windows Explorer is enabled (default) you will not see 'Gothic.INI' but instead 'Gothic' only.
(I personally hate this option to be defaulted in this way)

Great idea, but other files show extensions and there is no just plain "gothic" file.

I was at the office when I typed the above. When I got home I checked the Gothic directory one more time and there was, indeed, a file labeled "GOTHIC" with no extension. That was the one!

Thanks for your help.
