I'm going thru the game again, and I just saved Vi. I heard that lugging her along can be worth it because she has lots of interesting story-related info to share. As a rule, I don't ever pick up RPCs, but I'm considering breaking my rule. Does she add enough to the Wizardry experience to justify messing up my party's painstakingly-created chemistry? |

Well, you know how screwed up my game is; but she's on my team. Why, you ask, I don't know, and that's the truth. She hasn't really added much so far. Her kill ratio is on par with my gadgeteer, which isn't saying much, she does help out with minor spell casting if my priest gets taken out of the picture or gets too busy. I guess a little help is better than no help, she does take away skill points that could go to my permanent team though.

Give her a polearm and she'll become a lot better.

She should add several interesting points to story, especially if you will go with her to end.

I found Vi to be most useful NPC in my party. Granted, I haven't tried them all, but that's why you replay it for variety. Second time through, I'll want to experiment with other NPCs (like I don't have a gadgeteer in my party and never used Madras).
I suggest a polearm & bow for her. Also, since you get her early she becomes a formidable spell caster if you develop her that way. Between her, my Lord & my Priest, I am ready for overkill in the Divine spells. Defensive spells rule the game, and she contributes her share when she's around.
I'm closing in on the end for the first time, and would like her to be there, but I'm not sure I can get her to the Ascension without forcing her with return to portal. I'll see how this works out.... _________________ The world itself shifts and changes and fades to mist like the strings of a minstrel's harp, and mayhap the dreams we forge are more enduring than the works of kings and gods.-Robert E. I am not sure, but it should work. And several interesting experiences and dialogues awaits you if you will have her in your party. |

Vi is very useful, and helpful in the Cosmic Circle. As far as I know, there is no way to get her to Ascension Peak without listening to her whine about Rapax Rift--she traveled with the Dark Savant, and she's whining about Rapax now? |

Since you brought this one back up, I'll give you my version:
I finished the game the 1st time with Vi in my party. When she encounters the Dark Savant in the cosmic circle, she fills in some story lines - like what her & her family's role really is. Depending on what option you choose (I tried all 3 at various times, just replaying the ending with the same party - my initial choice was to take the pen), she may react differently. When I got to new areas while running through the game, often she would tell me something about them the first time we visited.
Once upon a time in a place that I now have no hope of remembering where it was, I read that there was an altermate way to Ascension Peak via Mt. Gigas, if you ran a party that supported the T'rang against the Umpanis. When I posted that thought here, nobody had ever heard of such a thing. (And I never tried it myself, since I played both sides.) If this will-o-wisp is false, you do have to kidnap Vi using set portal/return to portal to get her into the Rapax castle to reach the end game, which is what I did. (She has no penalties once you leave the castle to AP.)
For the update on my current game, my second party is level 7/8 and at Arnika. I did not recruit Myles, and just rescued Vi and brought her to He'Li. Once I am done with Braffitt the first time, I plan on dropping her since I already took her all the way through the first time. _________________ The world itself shifts and changes and fades to mist like the strings of a minstrel's harp, and mayhap the dreams we forge are more enduring than the works of kings and gods.-Robert E. Yah, Kunar has a teleporter, you can even see where it is if you get his key, but it won't be active until you do the last T'rang quest. |
