Please help me understand. Is there some point to being a Mage? It seems that all of the rune spells (or at least the most important ones) are available as re-useable spells that can be used by anybody. Am I wrong or missing something? A Mage doesn't cast any faster or any better as they advance do they - that might put their spell casting ahead of a Warrior?

Scrolls can be used by anyone and have one use each.
Runes can only be used by trained mages (except teleport runes) and have infinite use.
Mages have generally more Mana wich helps them cast more spells before they have to drink mana potions or sleep.

But there seem to be some scrolls that do NOT go away when used - investment scrolls or something like that.

i thought investment scrolls were things like Fireball, things that you decide how much mana u wanna put into it, thus deciding how much damage to inflict.
the scroll still gets distroyed does it not?

Yes, they do destroy - I must have been confused earlier. I did a careful test today.

I am currently a Templer. I have learned circle 4 level of magic. But I also learned to master 1 hand weapons. I did not learn any thiefing skills or ranger skills.
Therefore I use magic like I would a bow or crossbow. But the magic is very powerful.
I had 7 Orc Dogs coming after me. With Storm of Fire I can shoot several bursts and keep all the dogs at bay while they burn up.
Yes, you can get it as a spell scroll. But after I use it up it's gone, and they are expensive. The ring will never be used up.
As a mage I concentrate on Mana and strength.
No dexterity.
I have about 100 strength and 200 mana in chapter 5. My dexterity is 20. But I have powerful rings and amulets to wear if I need to increase my dexterity to 50.

I finished the game and I fel like that it would probably be easier to stay as a figher and not a mage to finish the game. But I am not sure since I only finished the game only once and I was a lvl 6 mage, and it was tough and annoying to beat.

Spoiler below about what I had to do to finish the game as a mage.

I finished the game as a mage, but it was hard. Those Demon Lords of the Sleeper, the ones that appear after you stab each heart with the swords, were hard to kill as a mage. I couldn't do that Death spell from the stone that was on the sword. Every time I would start the magic the demon would hit me and then I would had to start over. So what I did was just run until he quit following me then I would use the magic from a distance. This was kind of annoying always had to run. Next time I am not going to be a mage, just a fighter. Then I can use the Sword and stone as is and kill these creatures much faster and easier.
