Does the story in FREELANCER keep going or what?? Help!

Hey there,

Anyone played Freelancer?? I played for a while and beat the aliens in their Dyson sphere or whatever, and then the game just kept going and nothing else happened. I got sick of flying around the universe selling junk and quit. Later a friend of mine started playing and the same thing is happening to him. Was that it for the story? It seemed to leave a lot of holes. I can't get any answers from the Microsoft website as it seems they are more interested in selling the game than anything else.

!Muchas gracias!

The story does not continue. There is some fun to be had hunting up derilicts then finding a ship that can carry L10 weapons.

There are also some pretty darned challenging fights in some of the sectors you did not explore on the main story (Omicron Gamma and Omicron Theta come to mind).

I suggest you get in good with the Corsairs (not all that easy at first).

There is also the online play ... not that I've tried it, but my son swears by it.

Thanks for the reply Lintra. Wow, I can't believe they ended it just like that. I mean, what did THAT story have to do with the intro movie anyway?? Oh well, I doubt I'll continue as I prefer having definite objectives when I play games.

The Nomads destroyed earth.

You can only see it if you download the full intro movie, not the cut one that made it into the game. I have no idea why they cut half the movie out... the half that made the story make sense.

It's an awesome intro... the huge nomad battlefortress emerging from deep space, the look on people's faces and reactions, the detonation of the sun... awesome.

Thanks for the insight, EverythingXen. I can only guess they cut that part because they wanted the whole Nomad thing to be a surprise, but, I'm just saying that I would have appreciated SOME indication that the game was finished. Everything pointed to something more - Orillion asking you to be the "eyes and ears of Liberty," Juni being her little flirtatious self without so much as a kiss, and the simple fact that there are plenty of higher level ships and weapons for sale that you didn't even get to use for the story! (yeah yeah, I know it was also designed for Multiplayer, but I'm not in to that.)

@Jabberwocky - Can you say sequel? FL2? My belief is that they left enough hooks in to attach a few add ons AND a sequel.

Just a guess on my part. But compared to the end of ... oh say .. Anvil of Dawn where the lead beats the bad guy by throwing him/herself into an active volcano, and the player is treated to a short myth about about what happened. Well. FL feels like chapter 1.

Umm, I'm not sure if that was meant to be cutting or not... So I'll give you the benefit of the doubt! Of course I can "say" sequel, and I have no doubt that they will make one too. (What game doesn't nowadays?) I was just venting a little because I felt like I wasted a lot of time playing the game (albiet a good one) when there was nothing substanitial left to do in it. I have a lot of unfinished games in my collection because I have little time to play them, and would rather have spent that time working on a different one. Know what I mean? Again, thanks for the initial help. - It saved me a few more "lost" hours!
