Dont Want To Rain On Anyones Parade But...

.. I received an email from Atari UK this week (I do a few game reviews on a site of ours). Read thread below

Take it with a pinch of salt if you like. I for one was a bit p!$$ed
If anyone wants the email of the guy at Atari to investigate further - pm me. I just didnt want to publish any email addresses on here.

Has there actually been *firm* evidence that the Addon is coming out in English and the UK? After this, I'm not so sure

Apologies if this should've gone in an existing thread.
Swanny

Hi Louise,
Thanks for this.
I was asked the other day if Atari have announced a release date for the
Gothic 2 Addon - "Night of the Raven" for the PC

Do you know anything about this?

Kind Regards,
Swanny

...but the subject of the e-mails is "DRIV3R revised release date".
what is this about? or do you mean that if they don't know if they're gonna release that game, then they surely might not release the Addon...?

I'm pretty sure they (whoever it was) received Infogrames' announcement of the release date change of Driv3r and replied to ask about the launch date of the add-on without changing the subject line.

It must be talking about Driv3l, another game, that was to be canceled but was rescued at the last minute. Driv3l is going to be released in US only I guess. The sloppy communication is difficulty to make sense of with the wrong subject headline.

Why Driv3l gets a release instead of Raven is beyond me; the management of Atari must not play many computer games. Atari even got the rights to publish the sequel to Falcon 4 Gold: Operation Infinite Resolve. It was to be Xicat, but not now. I wonder if they will F*[ up that great simulator game also by not putting in a decent paper manual; it is a complex flight simulator. Heck, it may never be released either.

These companies need to check out their publishers, they can ruin a game.

That's what it looks like to me. This could be rather depressing news. However, keep in mind that it is entirely possible that some internal people (like this guy) are not "in the loop" and certain infos just haven't filtered down to them yet.

Holding out for more "official" info either from Pirahnna Bytes or Atari.
(Now that I think about it though, would Atari release ANY kind of info if they didn't plan to put out NOTR?)

I don't think Atari would announce a delay of a release. We'll never know except that it won't be. Very depressing IMO.

Oh well, I guess I better brush up on my German, and wonder if I can even import the German version.

'WAS going to be released'. Due to the lost of financial income from bad investments, they need to show a quick profit; thus they choose the main stream game 'Driv3L' (another bad investment IMHO) over 'Raven' to release first. Tell me I am hopefully wrong! I do not understand the logic.

Ahh man your wrong!
Maybe its only possible that the addon will be released a little bit later.
But i dont think that they are not going to release the addon, you know they are done with translating right?
Well translating costs money if they are so stupid to not release the addon, than they have trown away there money, so relax trust me on this.
The addon is going to be released!

Agreed, it will be released by someone. I think Atari would have to consider the cost to publish and contract cost with PB to profit made if they never publish it.

It may end up languishing until end of the year as a Gold Edition, Gothic 2 + Add-On Raven together, to sale for more money.....I may not be around to play it!

Spunior, regardless of the subject line, the Atari guy was definately referring to "Night of the Raven". Dont look too deep into the subject line because there is no question Driv3r is coming out in the UK - thats confirmed.

Like Elkston says, its very possible the spokesman simply has nothing firm about the release date of NOTR so is just being vague.

I personally get the impression its either been pulled midway or the translation wasn't even started after all. I've sent another email to my contact at Atari to clarify if he can. I'll post the reply here if you want me to.

Dark Omen, I dont know where you got 15th Feb from for an announcement, but I hope you right.
