I don't see how it could have looked any better - I find the graphics fits the mood perfectly. Personally, I wouldn't want the graphics to appear more "cartoonie" or more crisp or anything else - I think they got the "look" absolutely perfect for the game.

I also don't see how it could run any smoother - I find it perfectly smooth as it is.

More budget might have culled out a few of the bugs and perhaps allowed them to pay more attention to "non-bug" issues like better conversation options as the game progressed and more optional differences between camps.

Graphic is perfect.
Optimalization could be better. You have true, more money means more skillfull progamers, better betatesting etc.
But with what they had they did maybe not best possible bur though perfect work.

Lets turn it around. Implement a few hundred NPCs and masses of AI in the Unreal engine. Will it still look as good and be as fast as Gothic?

the fact is, the gothic world is absolutley staggering in size if you think of the load times and the fps your getting, its very good

A better machine helps too. I havent had any problems with graphics or smoothness of them
