With IGN and gamespy merging, expect them to charge access to even get into the website. |

i wasnt serious. anyway, they can do what they want, no matter how many ppl dont like it. as long as they allow free access to the basic stuff like fileplanet, i dont care much. |

Noooo... Ammon... you had to do this when I'm hungry as hell, didn't you? Oh man, that would be so cool now. I'd just ring up my local McDonalds and ask for the employee of the month to deliver to my front door in person.. and pronto, too.
On 2nd thought, I'd prefer if we merged with Pizza Hut though. Never liked burgers that much anyway . |

Fileplanet isn't free. They make you wait a long time to d.l even an old patch file that you need when no one else carries it. |

I don't really care anymore. I hardly ever visit those sites anymore. They just don't hold my interest.
Speaking of merging with food chains, how about Carl's Junior? I rather like their food. They have great fry sauce! _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Huh? How do you define free? I think free means it doesnt cost you a cent. In that case, fileplanet's free. You only have to wait for 20 minutes or so to download a file, and it gives you an alarm sound so that you can drop whatever you are playing and start the download. Thats free bcuz it doesnt cost anything unless you subscribe to their special super-fast priority servers. Ur definition of FREE must be wackey, heh. |

There's free and then there's free |

Depends on if you count advertising supported as "free" or comercial, I guess. No you don't have to pay, but the site does make money off of you. (or at least they hope to, don't think it's much.)
I regard IGN as a once interesting free site, that (apparently) became too expensive to run and started to find ways to raise money. When they started a pay service, I started ignoring them. Too little content to pay for, especialy when there are other sites that will report the same story. Sad becuase it was a great site.
GameSpy/FilePlanet I don't know if it was ever free, but again I can find almost everything on theire site somewhere else for free. I usulay start a fileplanet download then go looking for the file elsewhere. Before I get to the head of the line I've already got the file.
Personaly I blame Coca-Cola. Well maybe not Coke, but why is it that a company can spend $$ on a highway billboard, which does not directly generate sales (no mater how many times you click it) and they expect banner adds to equal imediate sales. Why can't just use them to get the name out.
What will be a sad day is if RPGDOT gets big enought that they can't continue as free. |
