After killing the damn ore baron Gomez, I tried to use the control spell on them see if I can use one to wonder around the OC.

no matter how many times I tried, I failed....

Normal.
You have to use the change char cheat.

Right, I tried to control about everybody, but the only reaction I got out of the named characters was - obviously - a severe headache. Then they were really mad at me...
Too bad, I wished you could have done more with control than possess some diggers and the like.
