Poll Results and New Poll

This last poll looked at freedom vs story -- a difficult topic without appropriate context so keep that in mind when interpreting the results. Freedom and emergent play polled 56% while Story pulled just under 44%. It's clear most readers would prefer a good mix of both but while freedom wins, a good number of readers want a strong context to their in-game actions.
This time we're asking something simple: what genre do you enjoy most other than cRPGs? Hit the poll on the left.

Re. story v freedom

If you haven't seen Will Wright's GDC presentation, you should. (Give em a fake Mailinator address.)

I tend to favor strategy if I don't have a RPG to play. Real-time over turn-based, but either is acceptable.

You've got a bad overlap-- TBS and other strategy (4x, tycoon)

Since the archetype TBS is the Civ series, which are 4X games, I think you'll get some crosstalk between those options. I'm guessing you were aiming for "sandbox" strategy games like RR Tycoon, SimCity and Sim-Everything-Under-the-Sun with that second option?

No...I was thinking of 4x...only mentally I was separating the space-based 4x I like (MOO, GalCiv) from the stuff I'm not interested in - Civ etc. I knew I'd get in trouble with all these silly genres I don't play.
