Why?

"As no one wanted to hear, I'm telling you" - Dimmu Borgir

To start of, Vid, you (as a game developer) must learn to see things through the gamers point of view. If this is not something you are ready to do, you should not even try to produce games. To know what we want you must know us. If a gamer does not get what he want, he will download the game and you will get nothing.

Your view:
The gamers only download games, so we can't take the risk of making an innovative game thats different. That would be to jeapordizing (sp?). We need money to pay our workers, so they had better make a game fast. Lets use a "safe" concept, like an FPS where humanity has been taken captive, and you have to save it. Yeah, that would be safe. Now, we need to have the game out fast so no very new technologies can be used.
Ok, now we have a finished game that sould sell rather good.

Or, if you take the risk of making a good game you want to be sure that it sells a lot, so you release it to a console first and then convert it to PC. The consoles sell a lot better, so we sould save rather a lot money that way.

Our (the gamers) view:
I surely hope that they do something new this time, not some crap with an old concept. (reading a magazine) Hmm, some stupid company is (once again) releasing a non-innovative, non-groundbreaking game that has old graphics, bad gameplay and no good story. I'll just download it, something like thats not wort spending $70 on.
(reading a magazine) Hmm, this game looks realy cool. WOW nice, new, crisp graphics, a GOOD team working the story, good voice-actors. (continues reading), wow, and only 4 months left.
(3,5 months later, reading a magazine) NO, what the hell?! They're making it for console? DAMN, I thought that would be the game of the year. *sigh*
(1year later, when the game has been converted to PC, reading a reveiew) Hm, just as I thought. Sucky controls, bad graphics (they were reduced for console-performance) and the whole game-experience is ruined. I'll just download it.

Conclusion: If the developers do the fatal errors of converting or being conservative, nobody will want to spend they'r hard earned money on that lump of coal they call a game.
Some games were big hits, and they were:
Innovative, well produced (not hurried) and it has to have new and exciting functions, graphics and the like. Otherwise its noting but polluted air in a box.

I'm personaly heavily against downloading and pirateing, since it takes the gameing-industry into a downward spiral. Gamers have to start boycotting games instead, for otherwise the developers will blame pirateing and not get better. I feel like I sould excuse myself for the strong aggresiveness of this post, but a change is neccecary.
