Ultimately the publisher is responsible for the content, end of story. Again, if they want to censor their games for Americans, I just wont buy it, and your saying my piddling little 50 bucks wont hurt the game company when I don't purchase it, you're probably right. But that's about all I can do as an individual, and I can suggest other individuals do the same. But a lot of the marketing of good games is from word of mouth and a lot of that word of mouth trickles down from hardcore gamers. I think you're underestimating the importance of that '10 percent' that you seem to dismiss.

Im buying it because it has a huge worldmap, freedom, tons of quests, ect... to me, blood and guts isnt all that important in a game... of course i would like to see some beheadings of whatever but after a while i can imagine it just isnt worth the self-degradation.

Publishers are in the business of making money. If they invest in an RPG with(out) gore or the 20th football game is only of periferal importance for them. They will try to minimize risks.
Now letīs say all hardcore gamers donīt buy the RPG and even spread a bad word of mouth. What will Encoreīs conclusion be? 'Censorship harms our sales!' or 'RPGs donīt sell!' ? Iīm sure itīs the latter.

If you want to do something write a short and precise letter to your local MP, to make him aware of the problem.
If you want to punish Encore you should buy the UK version from one of the importers. Then all those who deserve it (devs, UK publisher and importer) will get their money while Encore loses a sale.

I don't buy some of the arguments being made here.

If you purchase the USA Encore release you are supporting censorship - end of story.
Please don't try and come up with lame and absurd excuses defending Encore's decision. I've already sent Encore my thoughts on their decision. Think of it this way: say a film comes out un-rated such as the original DAWN OF THE DEAD, Pete's Cinema is showing the un-rated version but Joe's Cinema says "bah-too much blood and gore" we will remove all of the blood and gore and show a PG version. Tell me, which version are you going to see? I thought so!

This is one of the things going wrong in the USA in these times. Too many people are easily brainwashed by fluff talk. Tell them a lie over and over and they will eventually believe it. I'll have none of this thank you very much.

come on, don't be pissed because of one little censorship action.
if you don't buy the game because of that, you should be thankful that you dont live here in germany, because then you wouldn't buy any game.

I have the feeling I'll purchase Sacred from gogamer.com to get the UK version.

amazon uk has sacred for 22 pounds, but...

but refused to ship to a US address! I'm assuming it's because of the censorship issue. Has anyone else tried preordering from them?

My guess is that Amazon.uk can't sell the same items to the USA that Amazon.com sells. They'd be competing against themselves.

no way i'd ever in my life knowingly pay for a censored product. i already got screwed-over by inadvertingly buying a bastardized censored version of Hitman 2. never again.

it's ludicrous how the devs call this CENSORSHIP not "censorship" - but "tweaks". someone needs to buy those guys an English dictionary. what they did to the US version is not "tweak" - what they did was CENSOR.

it's also BS that Encore wanted a "T" rating. Diablo II, Diablo II LOD both sold millions of copies each - and they both have an "M" rating. censoring a game to get a "T" rating will not help sales whatsoever.

in this case, it's gonna hurt them. i will boycott Sacred for them trying to sell a censored copy to me on my homeland without even labelling on the box the fact that you are buying a CENSORED COPY. that my friends - is blatantly false advertising, and really should be illegal. i'm sure Sacred lost a ton of sales from like-minded North Americans.
