NWN VS Morrowind VS WAR III |
|
I have 65 bucks, I'm looking for a graphics feast, but don't want to be encumbered by crap battlenet access (but if War III is worth it, then I'll go back on the Blizzard TEAT), or limited character developement options, so, what do I buy? |

NWN has dated graphics, think a 3d version of BG. Morrowinds are superb, but it's SP only. No idea about W3. Not my type of game. _________________ If God said it, then that settles it!

WCIII has a great proprietary graphics engine (which they are using to power World of Warcraft). NWN is a trifle dated, from what I've seen. Neith is quite as pretty as Morrowind, but WCIII has the lowest requirements. _________________ "It has been a grand journey- well-worth making once."

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode. I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

If I had to choose from the three I would get Warcraft III. It only comes before Morrowind in my book because it is multi-player. _________________ His thoughts are whack.

Are you guys kidding?? have any of you seen it on a computer screen? I truly doubt it. NWN has by far the best graphics of ANY isometric RPG to date(yes much better then dungeon seige). Oh ya and it has character developement up the wazoo with plenty of multiplayer options something morrowind has neather. Dont get me wrong both Morrowind and neverwinter are great games. Warcraft is really a tactical strategy game with some Role playing elements though. _________________ "It is impossible to better oneself without knowing ones weaknesses" |

I am in agreement...The graphics are very nice and the colours are vibrant....I can say with a lot of confidence that they are better than Dungeon Seige. _________________ We need a new bard. All this one does is sing and drink. |

NwN has bad graphics. Your average next-generation console RPG would blow it out of the water, and yes I did see it on my own computer screen. _________________ His thoughts are whack.

Gomez is right....the graphics are nothing too spectacular. If you want more pretty go for some other mmorpg......NWN could use an overhaul in graphics. _________________ "What are you gonna do? First off console RPGs dont make me laugh. when you can find a console rpg that actually has all of the elements that make up a good RPG (which Neverwinter has aka story, character developement, tactical combat, a world that within its self has basis on reality, consistancy within that world so that the laws within that world arnt broken within that world. ect..). Find me a console game that doesnt give so dasmnlinear experiance that you feel like the game is choking your free will from you. OH ya on the note of graphics, first off the curent console RPGs dont have better graphics than computer games anylonger now that computers utulize direct x 8 technology. Find me a console RPG that has as DETAILED graphics of neverwinter with the great spell effects. TRully the best spell effects I have seen in a game to DATE. |

with what I could understand from MtDwarf's spew.....I have to say MtDwarf... he was talking about future average console games.... nor was he praising them. NwN might have all the makings of a great game but it lacks in the graphics department...thats what he was referring to. And I agree....great spell effects or not....the graphics are lacking. I have to have some degree of pretty before I can begin to enjoy the game. The only exception here is Fallout....it didn't have the greatest graphics (yes the death scenes were still spectacular despite this) but it was a great game. Until the game has some pretty or actually proves to be as good as Fallout I'm going to pass. _________________ "What are you gonna do? Release the dogs?! Or the bees?! An iso viewpoint game years in development pulls off graphics equal to Dungeon Siege, which was primarily praised for its graphics ('breathtaking' 'revolutionary' rave the bought off critics put on the box) just two short months ago, and it gets called dated.

I really have to agree with xen. It really disgusts me when people make such a big deal about graphics. Every so many years I end up playing games that are two or three years old becouse my computer is lacking so I go back to all the good games I had missed in the past. I am able to look past such superficial aspects of a computer game. And then they say Neverwinter has bad graphics (which it does not, come on were are you people gettting your information, its graphics may not have the fantastic water effects of morowind or very detailed faces on characters but other than that they are more detailed then any RPG to date, and I have played every RPG worth playing). And how could you not say what I said concerning future RPGs true. Give me a break that is why console rpgs are such worthless garbage they all follow the same damn mundane formula with lousy character developement, unrealistic worlds were they just throw a bunch of junk into a world, dont bother explaining why its there and then stick the name tag of fantasy on it saying its OK. Random battles with cutsenes that have nice graphics dont constitute a good rpg in my book. Neverwinter is bringing the true party based adventuring aspect of the game that started role playing games in there entirety. If you want to play a cookie cutter console rpg with nice cutsenes and a standerd aname story then go ahead and deprave yourself.
PS. there is one console RPG that looks like it will brake the mold. EGO, but then again its made by computer developers go figure _________________ "It is impossible to better oneself without knowing ones weaknesses" |

Well, since my buying the game foots the bill for developing it, I will be as pissy about graphics as I want to be. And for the record, I was disappointed in Dungeon Siege graphics, and my opinion is that NWN has better graphics. However, from what I've seen, NWN's graphics are not any better than WCIII, and they are certainly not as scalable. Not to mention the requirements are significantly higher than WCIII's requirements. I'd like to compare the two directly (as I will within three weeks), but until then I cautiously reiterate my opinion. _________________ "It has been a grand journey- well-worth making once."

I invite MtnDwarf to play Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics if s/he hasn't already. Also, if you like games such as the Bard's Tale, try the recent Wizardry for the PS2. I don't feel that all console RPGs are quite as bad as all that, though I have seen games that are just as you described.
I'm playing NWN at 1280x1024 with all options maxed - in my opinion the game is flat-out gorgeous. It also *moves* well, which is very important to me as I tend to get motion-sick.
In response to the original post: If I was able to get only one game, I'd go for Warcraft III because it's been a while since I've played a Blizzard RTS. I'm especially looking forward to duels online. Neverwinter Nights would be my second choice if you had a group of people to play with. I didn't have very much fun with Morrowind, (it felt like MYST to me - not that this is necessarily bad), though I can appreciate the effort involved. |

I have to agree that Final Fantasy Tactics was a very enjoyable game, though very similar to the earlier Ogre Battle. (Square poached most of the development team). Their most recent version was on the Game Boy Advance, though I don't think it's made it out of Japan yet.
There was a lot to learn in FFT, though you didn't notice the learning curve. When I went back to it after leaving it for a while I'd forgotten everything... |
