Does anyone wish high-tech never entered Wizardry?

I have been a fan of Wizardry games ever since the late 80's when I played wizardry 1 on a Macintosh. I admit though I have not played every game in the series(shame on me!).
However, when they added high-tech stuff in Wizardy 6(or was it 7?), I just thought they were trying to copy games like Might&Magic or the game that Might&Magic likely stole ideas from, Alternate Reality. I believe it was D.W. Bradley(who also did Wizards&Warriors which had no high-tech by the way) who inserted all the high-tech stuff into the Wizardry series.
Does anyone else wish that Wizardry had remained a fantasy game? I would not have minded if Sir-Tech had made a seperate science fiction high-tech series of crpg's, but I feel fantasy and sci-fi rarely mix well.
I'd heard that when work began on Wizardry 9, they were returning to strictly fantasy again and was really pleased to hear this, but unfortunately, they were forced to close due to lack of funds and now Wizardry 9 sits unfinished somewhere and may never be completed.

I do think the technology in Wizardry 8 is far-fetched where the natives of the planet are conserned. I mean, if the Higardi have spaceports then why the hell are the police armed with maces, shouldn't they have guns? Although I will conceed that alien races with advanced technology would set up outposts on primative worlds. That would affect the technology level of the native inhabitants of the world.

I like it...
I do not say that it is logical, I just like it.

I like it as well. As long as it doesn't dominate the game, what's the harm?

The high-tech is there in W8, but don't dominate the quests and story, and you don't have to end up using blasters and other high-tech stuff to win the game.
Unlike the Might & Magic games you don't end up fighting robots and computers, but can rely on your best sword and your best spells until the end of the game!
I don't mind them dropping all the high-tech both in "Wizardry" and "Might & Magic" serie, but the potion of scifi in W8 is acceptable.

I agree - the high tech is fine. At first I was put off, but it adds to the quirkiness of the game - and there is no real reason why tech can't exist alongside magic. If you've suspended disbelief enough to accept magic spells, then what's the harm in believing magic didn't die as tech advanced.

And yes, it is ridiculous that space travelling races like the umpani would be fighting with muskets and swords...but the fact that knights are unrealistically restricted to L-shaped movements in chess doesn't make chess a less interesting game. It's experimenting with the internal logic of the game that's fun.

I've always liked the blend of technology in the fantasy world. It could be technology that's partially driven by magic, or are technology and magic really that different to begin with?
