I know that this isn't exactly a technical "problem", but I was wondering what is really needed to allow a game/program such as Gothic to use HW T&L. It seems to me that most games don't have this feature, but the ones that do have significantly greater performance (my vid card:Geforce2 MX400 64mb).
Many people on this forum have stated that AI is a major factor in the performance of Gothic on most computors, and I've read that a major goal of Hardware T&L is to free up CPU time/cycles to allow one's CPU to work faster/directly on AI and other non-graphical processes.
If it is really hard to impliment HW T&L then I understand fully why developers would not use it, but if it is feasible, perhaps the developers of Gothic should produce a patch that enables this feature, or perhaps think about using HW T&L in Gothic 2, since by the time Gothic 2 is finished a large number of people will have vidcards which support HW T&L.
Thanks for reading and I will enjoy reading your thoughts on this matter. |

Yeah its a shame, Hardware T&L is very usefull for low end computers but for high end there is not that much of a difference, so that might be the reason. I dont think it is very hard to implent for game developers. But its just never got popular.
PC games are almost never optimized as much as they could have been, that would take the game creators more time and time=money, HW T&L is used to optimize performance in a way.
One can only speculate in the matter.
