The Fall of the House of Interplay

Ex-Interplay staffer 'Joe' (I'm not sure of Joe's last name) has posted an article titled The Fall of the House of Interplay at his personal site. While most of this history is well-known, it does provide some interesting insight from the inside:
Herve also made other poor decisions, although minor compared to the above, no doubt they contributed to Interplay's downfall. In a stroke of utter stupidity, he closed down the game division responsible for some of Interplay biggest sellers, and fired all its personnel only days after it created a working demo of a long requested sequel to one of Interplay's most popular titles.

Hmm... I wonder how many sequels that Interplay canned that could've been potential winners?

Fallout3
Descent4
Freespace3
Stonekeep2
BG3
...

It's hard to believe that it once had the lead in RPGs,FPSs and space sims. If they had some good RTS games, they would've been all conquering.

I always feel sad when I see Interplay mentioned. An example of when one man's megalomania destroys the lives of many other people, for no other reason than to pad his pockets.
