Although I am not a loony fanboi, I would like to start out by saying that I enjoy Morrowind very much.
However, this story just smacks of Dune:
Three Houses in Morrowind (Halaalu, Telvanni and Redoran) and three Houses in the original Dune (House Atreides, House Harkonnen and House Corrino).
Prophecy about a "Savior" who will unite the native population and drive out the outlanders/outworlders. In Dune, that was Paul Maud'dib Atreides who had to go speak with the sietch Naibs and get their approval. In Morrowind, that's you, the Nevaraine, who has to go to all the Ashland tribes, speak with thir chiefs and get THEIR approval.
You talk to Azura and have a headtripping vision in which you collect a ring and talk to dead people. In Dune, Paul took the water of life, had a vision and saw dead people (already had his dad's ring).
Like you, the character, Paul started out clueless to his fate until "signs" showed him the way. In Morrowind, you get funky dreams and sleepers muttering at you. Not to mention that Dagoth Ur knows who you are right off the bat.
Later, you have to unite the Houses AND the native tribes against a common enemy. Hmmmmm.....again.....Dune.
Again, I'm not dissing Morrowind, I do truly enjoy the game but it's like Dune...but with Elves. |

You know I thought about the very same thing the first time I saw Morrowind, but the first thing that struck me was actually the similarity between the sandworms and the silt striders. Huge "bugs" which are harnessed and used for transportation by putting instruments into their soft spots. _________________ -I am He- |

Part of the story of Dune was that the legend of a saviour was planted in the Fremen culture so that the Bene Gesserit could use it at a later date - which Muad'dib did. It's a very common myth in human cultures, as you might have noticed in the real world. Houses - groups of people related by blood - are the most common human social organization, so I don't consider that a big coincidence either. There are many more than 3 great and minor houses in the Dune universe, though just 3 are important to the main plot. I think there are 6 dark elf houses important to the MW plot, Dwemer and Dagoth only have 1 representative each in the current age, however. |
