You can switch between 1st person and 3rd person both in Gothic 2 and Morrowind. _________________ Jaz |

I'd forgotten about it until now, but Wheel of Time is a decent action/rpg mix. It's a bit bland for my tastes, but the death matches take quite a bit of skill, and the magical element is neat.
Clive Barker's Undying and System Shock II are far better. _________________ "Madness is the first step towards unselfishness. Be mad and tell us what is behind the veil of 'sanity'. The purpose of life is to bring us closer to those secrets, and madness is the only means." --Kahlil Gibran |

And for your info: if you are thinking of buying a new budget PC to play the latest games, you can assemble a decent one at US$250. AMD Duron 1 GHz, 256MB PC2100 DDR266, Jetway V266B (VIA KT266A), ATA133, USB2.0, 20GB Hard disk, 64 MB Geforce 2 MX400 AGP 4X, 50X CDROM, 1.44MB Floppy, integrated AC'97 3D CODEC Audio, integrated 56Kbps V.90 modem, ATX case, keyboard, mouse, NO MONITOR. The total came to US$250!
Where do you buy your parts?? I usually look on Pricewatch for prices, but my computer repairman (who makes my computers at no charge) recommends that I avoid buying from them. He says that some of the companies listed on their send you parts that don't work or go out of business after selling you the stuff and then you're screwed and can't return you faulty parts. I really respect the guy too, since he's done so much for me for free. He repairs my computer whenever I need it, burns me the games I can't afford (or can't find, such as Realms of the Haunting), and has even given my family a free computer. I'm very wary about buying from anyone but him because I don't want to offend him. The prices on Pricewatch are a little cheaper even though he gives me parts without the markup. But building the computer is one thing--getting the software end working is something completely different! When I first tried to install my new Geforce card on my computer, the computer wouldn't even boot up! It gave me some error message. I'm going to have to format my 10 Gig hard drive and start over from scratch--it was some sort of conflict in the registry, apparently. I tend to tweak my systems a lot internally, though I have yet to figure out how to clear all the crap off my computer that Windows ME puts on it. And I still want to play DOS games, so I'm not going to upgrade to XP. _________________ "Madness is the first step towards unselfishness. Be mad and tell us what is behind the veil of 'sanity'. I left a message for you on one of your other posts about puters. Get rid of ME and goto XP or 2K Pro. XP would be better probably. To play DOS games just install DOS on your old computer if you can get drivers for everything. Or drop DOS altogether as I have done... |

Thief I & II aren't RPGs, and their graphics aren't anything to write home about, but they certainly avoid hack-n-slash (especially if you play on expert) and offer lots of play with plenty of immersion in a fantasy environment. |
