I disagree entirely Lintra. These people arent stupid at all, they know exactly what theyre doing. If anything, theyre brazen. They know they have the entire political establishment here in Cali that revolves around making illegals comfortable, healthy, well-fed, non-english speaking, and hopefully voting. Everything from the phone company operator to a soda machine gives them the option of Spanish. They are a Democrat consituency, plain and simple. Between sellout business owners who choose cheap labor over modernization of their farming equipment, to the left wing cabal that sees another couple million votes for them, these people are a protected class. Sure, a few of them get sent home once and awhile to try and keep up the appearance that we actually have enforcement of our immigration laws, but by and large there are organizations like LULAC, La Raza, and the DNC who will go to bat for them. They spend a night or two in Tijuana, then turn right around and come back. After all, theyre just looking for work right? They all show up here supposedly as humble refugees, just looking for some mere scraps for their 5 hungry doe-eyed children. Then, they turn around and proceed to tell us how we are going to run the state to accomodate them.
So when gringo cops start giving them problems, they just give Barbara Boxer or Dianne Feinstein a ring, and they'll take care of it. This story is just the tip of the iceberg. If theyre bummed because they cant vote like the gringos, dont worry about it amigo, the Dems will pass a law saying you dont have to show ID to vote. It would be unconstitutional not to let illegal aliens vote now, we must be sensitive to their needs. Arnold being elected was the only thing that kept them from getting driver's licenses. If they get a sore throat, they can walk right into an emergency room and demand care, and give the taxpayers the bill. Hell, there are people that are pushing to give them free college tuition, while all our rates are skyrocketing.
It's getting to the point that I'm thinking about renouncing my citizenship, taking a vacation to Tijuana, then sneak back over the border as an illegal alien so I can reap the benefits of being one. _________________ “Then away out in the woods I heard that kind of a sound that a ghost makes when it wants to tell about something that's on its mind and can't make itself understood, and so can't rest easy in its grave, and has to go about that way every night grieving.”-Mark Twain |

Thanks for setting me straight Sammy. I was approaching the issue from a sane perspective. In a rational setting I would weigh the risks and decide that hopping on a bus is better than running the risks of a minor fender bender that would get me deported.
I forgot that in California the illegals have as many, if not more, rights than the legals. Silly me.
Speaking of silly and traffic accidents get this:
I was in Switzerland in September (for work), and found out that the penalty for speeding between 10 to 20 kph over the limit is:
Fine: 3,000CHF
Lose Licence: 6 months
Probation: an additional 12 months
Penalty for driving after a bottle of scotch:
Fine: 1,000CHF
Lose Licence: 6 months
Probation: 12 months.
So it is actually cheaper to get totally wasted and drive than it is to speed. I dunno about you, but after a bottle of scotch I'd have very serious trouble remembering how to make the car go - maybe that's the logic. Go Figure! _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Sam, It sounds like that is a jurisdictional problem. You have state regulators trying to govern what is really a federal problem and a violation of federal laws.
The nature of democratic government government is that the elected officials do the will of the governed (in the long run anyway). So if you have a large chunk of Mexican immigrant voters who want their government to turn a blind eye to illegal immigrants so that their families can enjoy American life, government officials will turn that blind eye. To expect California legislators and executives to cut their own throat is not rational. That is why enforcement of this law requires federal officers who are not at the mercy of the relatives of these offenders.
On a related side note:
It seems to me that the clause in Article 14. Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution that says that all persons born in US are citizens of the US is outdated. It was needed in the early years of the country. At that point it was necessary to define clearly who was a citizen. Now it seems to produce ridiculous results at times. It makes no sense that a pregnant woman in a foreign country who sneaks into the country illegally should have a child that is a US citizen when neither of her parents is a US citizen and are in fact in violation of US law. It seems natural to me that newborn children should have the same citizenship status as their parents.
That is my opinion on this matter for now, though I admit I am not yet convicted or fully convinced on this matter. Does anyone else think our definition of citizenship is outdated? I would like to discuss the subject with others to work the bugs out of my opinion. _________________ Always with you what can not be done. Hear you nothing that I say? - Master Yoda

I think that the rules that govern citizenship are outdated, in my opinion. I wouldn't mind seeing people who are born here have to take the same citizenship test given to legal immigrants. It's not like it's hard.
I got 100%! Woot! Ms. Mckay would be proud. Of course, it's not terribly hard to remember what the Constitution is. I did have to think for a moment about which amendments deal with voting rights. Then I remembered Women's Suffrage was number 19. So easy!
So, how about this, if someone sneaks across the border illegally and has their kid, then neither they nor the child will be US citizens until the parent applies for citizenship, and passes the requirements with flying colors. Otherwise, they and their child are booted out of the country. Reasonable? _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Sounds reasonable to me. I would also apply the same standard to children born to legal aliens. _________________ Always with you what can not be done. Hear you nothing that I say? - Master Yoda
