Jagged Alliance 3D Announced

Although we've known it was coming for a while, Game Factory Interactive has officially announced 'Jagged Alliance 3D', in development at MiSTland, creators of 'Paradise Cracked' and 'COPS 2170: Power of Law'. This is a continuation of the famous series but necessarily the direct JA3 sequel you might be expecting, which should also be in development. Here's the press release:

Jagged Alliance 3D

The game is a continuation of famous game series on franchises Jagged Alliance. These are the games of TBS genre with role elements.

Game action takes place in the western coast of Africa. There is arms race intensification and exacerbation of a situation in the region. One of local countries desires to be a member of a nuclear club, but had no access to resources to produce it. The country has financed the revolution in another one small country, which possessed that resource. Thus, there was established a special regime in this country and all its resources were crossed to the invaders. Ex-government of the occupied country contacts with a player and suggests interfering in the situation: to overthrow a government of conqueror regime and to restore the previous regime. As conqueror-country and player’s opportunities aren’t equal a player starts to wage guerilla warfare. But for all that the small country can’t conduct open operations in the most big and powerful country, as it is afraid of world community attention. Thus, a player acts in a role of a Che Gevara of the present. The game consists of number of missions that are the unification of united plot. Game contains ~20 missions, who include obligatory and several unnecessary missions. Passing unnecessary missions, the player lightens pass of obligatory missions for himself, what means that the more unnecessary missions of the episode the player passes, the more easier it will be for him to execute the main mission of the episode.

Each mission is a level, on which the team of player appears and executes the combat task. In the real-time mode the player can control team, which can be arranged of 6 fighters (max). Mission considers accomplished if all of the soldiers of the enemy are destroyed. For successful execution of the mission the player gets money. Team of the player gathers experience and grows over itself.

Between missions the player can hire/fire the mercenaries, can buy/sell the ammunition, choose the mission from available on given moment missions (all of non accomplished missions of episode are available simultaneously).

Main features runs-down:

1. Jagged Alliance, but in 3D (the game has been developed based on the well-known brand)

1. Skinned mesh animation with animation blending

well...

So they completely dropped the strategy and managment part of the JA-franchise. Very sad, this was close to the most reaplayability ensuring factor. Sad sad sad...

Gah. Missions? What is wrong with the universe? Jagged Alliance 2 is one of the best games of all time, damnit, and all you needed to do was 3Dify it. Why on earth would you change it to mission-based? To ape those stupid Clancy games? Grrr. Grrr. Grrr.

On the other hand, it's good to see that PC gaming is totally alive and well, you know, with our one of our best titles in the hands of the developer that brought you such gems as 'Paradise Cracked' and 'COPS 2170: Power of Law'. Yessir, better than ever. I can't wait to see what the next few years brings us.

Here's my favorite next-gen feature:

7. Various mission objectives

1. Destroy all enemies

2. Destroy specific enemies

Really running the gamut there...

Just in case the newsbit isn't clear, there should also be a "true" (we'll see) Jagged Alliance 3 in development. This is a separate consumerised (I guess) product in the same universe.

Of course, if you don't like the whole idea of a non-JA JA game even if a "real" one is coming, carry on...

At least people agree a non-TB JA wouldn't be a JA, unlike with FO3. JA 3d is to JA as both (present and past) incarnations of FO3 are to FO.

Game sequals without the same game mechanics are not really sequals, just a spin-off.

I thank every one who said the word TRUE sequal.

It is pretty sad when a non-rpg like JA2 is actually more of an rpg than rpgs are now.

I wish the guys who made Wildfire make the actual JA3, that way all the foorums will light up with posts from dummies whinning about difficulty. I think Wildfire had its flaws, but difficulty wasn't one of them. TB Strategy games are supposed to be difficult and restricting of audience (aka, not for dummies). I'm a space sim dummy so I stay clear of that genre, which gets increasibgly difficult as the years go on, unlike every other genre, even the ones that should, like rpgs (tbs has been dead for years now not counting mistlands crap games so it can't really get harder than that, I could argue that rpgs are dead also but won't now). I can't handle homeworld and x2, way too difficult for me to get into, as they should be as I am not a true fan of the genre and they shouldn't dumb down their games for morons like me.

Even FPS's are getting harder. A friend of mine was polaying one game, I don't know the name of it, but you basically had to make zero mistakes and have the reflexes and reaction and awarness of a teenage mutant ninja turtle to play it. But my genre is increasingly getting softer and easier like a fat, crack-desperate prostitute.

I'll buy this sad excuse for a game (I like to judge games on limited information) from mistland, whose two TB games have been horrible (but that I still bought) to support the small guys and the JA franchise and in hopes one day mistland will make an actually good TB game.

Anyway, that rant was to long to be a true ejaculation.

It will be as successful as Battle Isle 3.

On the other hand Wolfenstein 3d was a successful sequel to its previous incarnates. Of course, in that case they actaully innovated.

Will this include such great character names as "Hacker"?

Ja3

Prediction: game quality and playability will fall somewhere between Power of Law (unforgivable) and Silent Storm 2 (passable). I *highly* doubt this company will pull off anything in the same galaxy as JA2.

Anyone want to make bets they use PoL engine for it?

And why can't they get someone with English as at least a *second* language to do their very first American press release?
