Kyle 'Pezman' Peschel, Senior Online Producer at Atari has posted a short message to the Atari boards:
The patch is in the home stretch and should arrive within days, I should have a news update on Monday for you all.
|

This happens every month or two. Forum entries for news comments are not created until someone accesses or comments.
So, a news post lies dormant with no comments...then someone pokes around our database and looks at something old. A forum comment entry is created. Someone sees it and posts to say "This is old!! Don't you know what you are doing???!!!" (they usually use lots of exclamation points).
Noone ever actually checks the news (you know, the real news on the front page) to see that there is no such new newsbit. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

I'm not even vaguely qualified to respond adequately on what that would entail.
With my limited understanding, the comments system integrates with phpBB (obviously) and it is not possible (or is extremely difficult) to create a new thread with an old date. The only alternative is to automatically create a comment thread for every newsbit regardless of comments - it seems a bit pointless to create empty comments threads just for that once every 2 months that someone calls up an old newsbit.
In addition, our volunteer programmers have only so much time and we have a long list of changes / fixes, some of which would have a daily impact, so they are much more important.
On the flipside, all readers need to do is check the main news page, which is the very reason for this site to exist, so that doesn't seem so unreasonable to me. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |
