Please tell me what a "Detect Enchantment" spell d

Are these used to detect hidden doors? Or maybe, enchantments on items, armour, or weapons that we can't realize normally?

By the way, the only hidden door I've found is in Ebonheart. (no spoilers for those who haven't found it.) I'm sure there are more around, can you confirm this? Thanks for your help.

Great question. And what do Detect Key and Detect Creature do? I've never tried any of them.

Don't know if this is considered a hidden door, but I found one behind a tapestry somewhere (Vivec?) on my quest to become Horator.

When in Seyda Nein(sp?), go to the peninsula behind the lighthouse (where the single mudcrab roams). There is a little swamp/puddle there with a stump in it. Once in the water (close to the stump), cast your "Detect Enchantment" spell. Then look at your map (either mini-map or get the big map up with the right click. If the game is fresh, you'll notice a blue circle in your vicinity. I'll let you figure out the rest . Detect creature and key work the same way. I believe it is the Tower sign that gives you detect item/creature/key ability, so you can try it out.

About the tapestries, I get stuck on them so often that I avoid them like a plague. I guess I should conquer(sp?) my fears...

There's a hidden door in the course of the Redoran Hortator (or for that matter, the Redoran Clan) quests, behind a tapestry in one of the Ald'Ruhn locations.

I know about the Redoran one because I've done that job. I wouldn't really call that a "hidden" door though. I was referring to a part of a wall that is actually a door. Very much like the one in Ebonheart, if you've found it. A section of the wall is actually a door, not just a door hidden behind a hanging carpet. Thanks for the replies though.

So, MoonDragon, a blue circle is what the Detect Enchantment does? What is actually detected? I don't understand fully what you mean? Thanks.

Hint: that stump is hollow...

Ok, we seem to be off the topic here. I'm not asking where the small elf stashes his loot in Seyda Neen. That quest has been done. I'm asking what a Detect Enchantment spell actually detects. Does it detect the hidden area of the stump, therefore, hidden passages or openings? Does it detect hidden doors in dungeons that we can't normally see because they appear to be a wall? Does it detect enchantments on weapons/armor/items that are not listed? Does it detect magical creatures lurking behind doors? Thanks.

Good question, I thought it detected magical items, but after I got the mentores ring and emptied his lockbox, cast detect ench and still had a blue circle pop up by the lockbox. Go figure, the box is empty.
