Thief unbalanced???

Im thinking of starting morrowind again with a thief type player. Is it worth it? Does it make the game unbalanced if yousteal the pants off people. Thats seomthing that kept me from playing with thief type. Ive played with a magic user and a tank/magic hybrid. Now i want to try a thief. ANy ideaS?

Well I was thinking about a woodelf with major skills: sneak, security, illusion, bow, light armor. Minor:alteration, short sword, enchant, long sword maybe speech??? What you think of that?

Sounds good

(Disclaimer: I can't really comment on your choice of magic - I don't use it )

Sounds like a good selection of skills. A decent thief should definitely have Sneak, Security, Marksman and Light Armour. Speechcraft is a very useful skill too - keep that. Illusion and Alteration sound right to be, although I don't play with magic so I can't be sure. Enchant I've not used, but it could definitely fit with the character.

Personally I'd take either Short Blade or Long Blade. My current character had both and I found it a waste of time - I intended to be able to swap between the two skills depending on situation, but in the end I totally favoured Long Blade over Short Blade. YMMV.

I might take long blade then. Im gonna be more of a marksman anyway. But I still need it for melee. BUt i love standing atop a hill and hitting monsters like mad haha!!!

Eh...

Funnily enough that's exactly my thoughts on my next character! It's not going to be a thief, but I'm heading for basically the same skill-set, except I don't use any magic or Enchant, and I'm going to keep Sneak as Misc (too many AGI-controlled stats in Major/Minor for my liking!)

I've found Armourer useful in the past, so intend to take that. Not sure about the other skills though - there's not enough choice if you don't use magic...

agi -> agility
with too many agi(or any attribute)-controlled skills in major/minor skills, you're going to have a hard time raising the other attributes, if not with the help of trainers
