(Kult) Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition - Review @ eToyches

From eToychest comes a negative review of 'Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition', with a score of 60%. Here's the intro, which made my head spin:
The original Heretic Kingdoms was born too late and too mediocre. Some games are born mediocre, some games achieve mediocrity, and some games have mediocrity thrust upon them. With Heretic Kingdoms, it had been all three. Even among games lacking all distinction, it inevitably stood out as a game even more lacking than the rest, and people who played it were always impressed by just how unimpressive it was.

Enter Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition. It has all the features of a ‘from the garage’ game without any of the perks one might find in that particular category. Good garage games are noted for their low budget quality, but also for the ingenuity and quality one would expect from a group of serious developers trying to break into the industry. Of course, it’s being generous simply assuming it’s from the garage, because the cold hard reality is it’s not.

For what it's worth, that reviewer is an imbecile.

I don't know him as to say whether or not he is an imbecile indeed, but it would have been nice if he had played the game first, before writing the discussed review.

Kult

Hey, I'm James. I'm sorry about the slip up, that was an accident on our editor's part. Thank you for bringing it to my attention though. Me and Etoy have changed it to reflect the original pre-edit version. If you really want to talk to me about it, without resorting to name calling, I'd be more than happy to carry on a discussion through email. You can reach me at Tarranon@gmail.com

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition --- The game formerly known as Kult!

This is a GREAT game for hardcore RPG fans who like stats and skills. Don't pay attention to any bad reviews! The attunement system used in the game is a brilliant new invention: it (finallly) gives you a reason to actually USE almost every different type of weapon and armor (in order to unlock their attunements). Also the Dreamworld is cool and it gives you a good reason to go over all of the terrain a second time: you must find the hex marks in the dreamworld which greatly aid in advancing your 4 basic skill levels (melee, ranged, magic, speed), and also to kill more (spirit) monsters to gain their essence, which greatly aids in unlocking attunements; also some NPC's appear only in the dreamworld. Great story line and plenty of good side quests and lots of good NPC's. Incidentally, if you play correctly, you can max out at least 3 of the 4 skills by the time you reach the end of the game (I ignored the "ranged" skill). Actually you only need to use two: choose your favorite out of melee, magic, ranged, and also do speed. Also you can easily unlock all of the attunements that go with your playing style (and lots of others also). And you can complete all of the quests (although a few have various outcomes).

Now sure there are a few weak points: slow travel: you can't normally run (actually you can with the "fleet of foot" attunement but only while using the Air element), and really long load times (made frustrating when you accidentally move onto a map's exit point - there's no "do you want to exit" choice). And combat is very simple - a mixed blessing! - (but preparing for combat with the right attunements is a worthwhile endeavor). Also a few very minor programming glitches (be sure to get the U.S. patch 1.5). But all of this is insignificant in view of the great gameplay. It's an absolute must!
