How do I acquire the RESURRECTION spell?

I've played both the Priest and Bishop, and at level 13 neither had learn the spell Resurrection. I've cranked up my Piety to 100 and still haven't learned it. Should I keep pushing up to more levels or is there a quicker way about this?

Now if anyone knows where I can find a Book of Resurrection, by all means please tell me. I find myself reloading a game everytime one of my teammate dies. Frankly, that's getting tiresome. According to the game manuel, the spell can be learned by a Priest at level seven. Obviously this isn't true, even for other spells both for Priest and Mage. But still -- level 13? Come on. How long does it take? And buying Resurrection powders is ridiculously high. I've teamed up with a pocket-picking Rogue but even if I crank up her stats she rarely ever steals anything successfully. As far as I'm concerned, her stealing ability is as good as worthless.

Please help if you can.

John

You're misreading the manual on the spell. Resurrection is a level 6 spell, so IIRC required level to learn is ---3(x-1)+1 ---- level 16. That's for a caster. Hybrids are 4 levels higher. There are no spellbooks for spells above level 5. Last, to be eligible to pick a spell at level-up, you have to have enough points. For resurrection, you need 75 points. That would be your divinity book skill plus 10% of your divine realm skill. Note that your piety has nothing to do with that part of spellcasting.

As for pickpocket, if you're playing the patched version (1.2.4), pickpocket is practically useless. That's why you'll see lots of people recommend a bard or gadgeteer over a rogue for covering the locks-n-traps skill when putting together a party. SirTech did the classic pendulum- PP was dramatically overpowered in the original version and in their efforts to tame it down, they killed it.

If you're having money problems, may I recommend a few things. First, pick up everything not nailed down and sell it off. Second, use someone with the alchemy skill (probably your bishop) for potion production. That's highly profitable. We've had an extensive thread on "potions for profit" a while back that will give you some help if you need it.

Edit: I bumped the "potions for profit" thread for you.

well, i'm surprised nobody's responded with a link yet, look up Spell Spreadsheet & U'll find plenty of threads with a link to info about spell learning.
Simplified, you need Caster level 3, 5, 8, 11, 14, and 18 respectively to get Spell levels 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Plus School (AKA Book) skill, which can be enhanced by 10% of your Realm (AKA Element) skill, of: 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90.
Caster level includes Hybrid level minus 4.
It was a little confusing when i first played D&D, too, that Spell level wasn't the same as Caster level.

Sorry, guess my brain went on vacation. Otter's completely correct. To get a better idea of what spells you can get and what you need for others, download Wolfie's spellcaster spreadsheet. You can find the link (as well as tons of useful tips) in our extensive FAQ.

Thanks, dteowner! Though I wish my manuel would explain those statistics you mention. It would be nice to know at what level was it possible to learn such spells.

Some people like to know how everything works. Others just want to play and aren't worried about it much. I guess SirTech figured those of us that are mechanics nuts could get the info on the net. Actually, Wolfie's spreadsheet was an offshoot of a discussion on another board. When the game first came out, lots of people were asking the same questions you are. Finally, one of the design team gave us the info we were looking for.
