Introduction and question on certain rpg's

Hi all,

well here go's

the only Computer/Console Games I Ever used to play were Deathmatch(Mostley fps's From Doom to Duke3d, to Goldeneye, to Shogo, to Kingpin to SOF1+2 to timspliters1+2, to HL and it's wonderfullmods, to maxPayne etc. etc) games..... the last real rpgs ive played were drakkhen and arcania and breath of fire all on the snes..
oh and i played Magic,D&D,Starwarsrpg, games as well.

Anways I bought Blade of darkness not too long ago and love it to death...... reading Some BOD(Blade of darknes) forums i came to realise its was considered and rpg. I was reading some forums and found out about a game called gothic, which led me to these forums.

MY QUESTIONs(srry took so long to get to it, i felt i needed toexplain abit and allow myself to introduce.......myself,)

Q.1 i was wondering if Gothic, and soon Gothic2, are like BODas in
a. Not turnbased
b. hack n slash etc.
c.3d, preferably 3rdperson
d. Big Enviroments

Q.2
I love BOD, American mcgees Alice, Rune(well runes SUCKS compared to BOD), and was wondering what other great games their are out there that are similar, and have the abcd's of Q1

Thanx in advance Looking forword to hear your responses

whew lots a typen...

Well, I didn't play Blade of Darkness but i know there are several people here who did.
Anyway... I'm trying to answer your first question.

Q1: Gothic I and II are...
a. ...not turnbased
b. ...NOT hack'n' slash if you mean including dismemberment and a most generous amount of blood and gore - the games' main focus aren't fights
c. ...3D and 3rd person
d. ...have big environments or rather, quite some landmass to explore.

You might also try Morrowind, it goes conform with a., c. (first and third person are possible) and d. (it has an extremely large if spartan territory to explore). But once again, though combat in MW is as plentiful as it is in Gothic, it's not the game's main focus.

I played Blade of Darkness it's a good game, but gothic is a litlle different ( more dialogues ) the fights are well quite simillar. In BOD you didn't have shops here you do, and when you get a level you don't get only life, but you can increase your streanght, dexterity or other usefull skills. If you liked BOd you will like Gothic for sure. If you buy it now better finish it quickly, G2 is coming

Baldur's gate, hereticII (neer played one) DiabloII+LOd(xpansion) some disagree but I like NWN. On Snes chrono trigger, secret of evermore/mana various final fantasies. as Gish said morrwind, i've never played Gothic, Freedom force is pretty fun too.

Oh right, Heretic II is great (and quite different from Heretic I which was great too) - it's not turnbased, 3rd person and hack'n'slash. How could I forget that one? It's pretty short though, and somewhat easy, but graphics and atmosphere are good.

I'd recommend Icewind Dale (3/4 Angle, not 3D, but very strategic hack n' slash rpg) to someone such as yourself. Also, you should try out Clive Barker's Undying (1st Person) if you like Alice. And Deus Ex (3rd Person) and System Shock 2 (1st Person) are great fun (not to mention the original system shock, though it shows its age).
