That's normal, the first 20 times of praying you'll receive +1 mana after that +3 life. You'll never get mana again, but you can increase you're lp a bit with this.

To put it in a small graph, the options are like this:
Praying to Innos:
- Guidless: 10 times +1 strength, 10 times +10 dexterity, 20 times +1 mana, after that +3 life. (This changes when you join a guild)
- Mercenary: 10 times +1 strength, 10 times +10 dexterity, after that +3 life.
- Mage: 20 times +1 mana, after that +3 life.
- Paladin: 10 times +10 dexterity, 10 times +1 strength, 20 times +1 mana, after that +3 life.
* Spending 50 gold will give you +2 life.
* Spending 10 gold will give you +1 life.

So when you get +3 life from giving 100 gold, you can better switch to giving ten gold, it will only cost 30 gold to get +3 life.
