Weapons into the quick slots

How do I get my weapons into the quick slots, and then how do I put them into use? I have having trouble getting the bow to engage off my back. It is there but when I hit the space bar, he puts up his fists instead of drawing the bow. Also I have a dexterity ring in inventory. How do I "use " it. When I hit control + up it does nothing.

If the bow is on your back, you must have enabled it...

Press 1 for your sword (or fists if you don't have one equipped)
Press 2 for your bow/X-bow
Press 3 for last used spell
Press 4-9 (or is it 0?) for spells
Press spacebar for last used spell/weapon.

If the background changes colour (on both the rings and the weapons/spells), it means that it has been equipped. Further, you will only be able to notice results with the Dex ring if you look at your Character Stats (Via one of the keyboard letter keys).
